I don't like these things; too close to the door so you often end up resting the forearms and even lower body against the door, negating some of the exercise.

I just got an extendable bar from Argos and used tension to keep it in the frame (you are supposed to screw the clips into the frame but I just extend the bar until it fits so tightly that the bar won't move). 10 years and it hasn't slipped yet (and it has been taken down and moved several times since then. Right now it's across the loft opening).

looks like a bit of a waste of time to me - you are putting all the weight on the door hinges rather than the strong part of the door, the frame. I saw a pull up bar that fitted to the frame but didn't need to drill or have to extend it in to the frame

this is it (although might be what you were looking at already)
http://www.boysstuff...e_base_in_house

seems better for all kinds of reasons - height, nothing in the way of your feet/body, ability to kip etc.

Powerbars are ok actually. Not ideal for commercial use and thin bars but they will withstand up to 20stone and you an attch rings for ring push ups and dips, muscle ups may be a bit dicey.

If just for sole use, not a bad purchase for 25quid.

Weird. Sorry to hear that. As I said, no issues here and the same bar has been in use since 1998.

Power bars are a great concept - if only they'd thicken the bar up a touch. The thin bar isn't conducive to long term GTG type training - blisters ahoy, combine that with some KB snatching and your hands will be toast. Kipping isn't advisable either. Very portable though, so great for taking out to parties......

For the love of God, don't kip ;)

Actually, the doorway jobs in general are pretty good for deadhangs, and this one looks pretty useful with the longer supports so it even allows use of gravity boots which is rare on these things.

This just looks like a varaition on the Powerbar, except it's twice the price and twice the size. The PB works fine if your door/doorway can accomodate it - though kipping isn't advisable. I was doing weighted leg lifts and the slight rocking actually caused the "feet" to burst throught the plasterboard above my door. So a full kip could end in disaster ;)

I'd love to be able to kip but I can't. Until I can do 18 dead hangs with a 10kg weight I'll stick to dead hangs. So I'll be old and grey before then........

PS - my max dead hangs right now is 6 , I was up to 9 before xmas but put about 1/4 of a stone on and got a monster cold so I couldn't keep up the greas the groove training.

All the best
Mark

Marcus i had that bar you posted a link to, it does require fixings! It's a bloody good bit of kit and will tolerate all you can thorugh at it.

Davie has it now but i don't know if it's up or not?

I'm still looking for a decent pullup bar / frame that i can do kipping pullups on. The majority of bars, from the sounds of it, are too dangerous to kip on. My only other thought was to spend £200 on a power rack that has one already attached.

Any ideas?

I could build one but it would have to be a moveable one as I move every two years (in the forces)

I suppose i could see if there is a metal smith on camp who could make a basic design for a small fee.

I was thinking I could buy a kids garden swing set, sort of with a triangular frame, and take of the kide swings etc.
