Today i'm going to the commercial gym, which means i have the ability to do some heavy deadlifting, which i haven't done in a few weeks.

I really want to find my new 1RM, but also want to do 3x5/5x5 sets, can i do both, without them having a negative effect on each other?

I checked on the gymjones site, and see some of their workouts containing, working upto a 1rm, then later on performing reasonably heavy sets with the same exercise.

Here is my thought atm:

-Warm-up
-Rowing
-Work up to 1RM Deadlift
-Pullups
-Power Clean
-DB Swings
-Deadlift 3x5/5x5
-Rowing

(btw it's a 'Pull' day today)

If i worked upto a 1rm would there be any need for the extra sets?

What i dont understand, is if by working upto my 1rm is it a strength workout and will that a lone help increase strength just as much as doing 5x5, or is it more of a performance measurement?
Things i Need:
140KG Olympic barbell kit, Power or Decent Squat Rack, Dip Station, Manilla Rope, Sledgehammer + Tyre, Rowing Machine, Sled, Weighted Vest, Captains Of Crush, Sandbag, Rings.

Do your 1 rep max test, then do the other deadlift sets. Stick to three sets of 5. Then do the other stuff (I think you've got too much in there tbh, leave a couple of exercises out).

The 1 rep max is mostly a peformance test but you will get some strength benefit from it. The 3 sets of 5 will be almost like 'back off sets': they should feel easier compared to the singles you just performed.

:D Cheers Gubes, knew i could rely on you!

Ok kushty, one more quick question, roughly what % of 1RM should i be using for doing 3x5, i would normally go about 90%.

Yeah good point, i'll take out the cleans and swings, as the deads will pre-fatigue these anyways.
