It was through the Gym Jones site that I began the fitness journey earlier this year.

I use the schedule for inspiration now and again.

I read in this month's edition of Outside about Mark Twight and his plans going forward....i.e. a fee paying site would be unveiled.

Went on there today.....stack me....$500 per annum to have access to articles, videos, FAQ etc.

They will be maintaining the free content that is already on there and will be [I assume] continuing to post to the schedule albeit in no great detail.

I like his site....he can be a bit pretentious....but I like it......but $500......not sure I like it that much.

Wondered what you guys thought...

Have a great one....

$500 is a lot of cash. I've looked at the Gym Jones site a few times, are you supposed to do all 3 WODS posted for each day?

No......the workouts are for different people / objectives.

I first thought that when I went on his site.....then I read through the knowledge section and there was a rather lengthy essay which showed me the error of my ways ;)

Besides if you tried to do all the workouts one after the other..........you would either die or be there the day after trying to finish. :D

So you would choose which workout suited your objective for the day.

Hope that makes sense

Have a great one

As Vanders on Warrior Training posted, that's Twight's integrity out the window. Someone's realised that they can make money out of a movie and an attitude. Pity, but I'm not forking out $500 for some online content - although I wouldn't mind the T-shirt. ;)

I might consider $100 to be a reasonable cost but there is no way I could ever justify spending $500 (330 GBP right now) on access to a fitness website. For that money I would expect personalised workouts and diet plans, voice access to Twight and a whole lot of other extra benefits to make it worthwhile. Right now, it's not even stuff I can't get elsewhere, pretty much everything is available elsewhere at a fraction of the cost.

Let's see what members get and compare that to things I get for $25 per year from the CFJ.;

Twice-monthly audio broadcasts: instructional, thoughtful, provocative, inspiring - hmmm, OK something we don't see , but hardly awe inspiring and I could argue that CFRadio fills that gap, and it's FREE (inane though it is most weeks)

New and/or updated articles in the Knowledge section - Check

Inspirational, entertaining videos - Check

Technical movement videos - Check

Database of Questions and Answers (this is not an FAQ) - oooh a knowledgebase not an FAQ.

Detailed description and pictures from daily gym sessions - wow a MUST-HAVE - compared to affiliate blogs, pics, videos in addition to the CFHQ stuff

OK, I am over simplifying but how would I justify this expense, especially in this financial climate? No way in hell I could do it.

OK the CFJ isn't the holy grail of knowledge, but for functional stuff it has some good information and is easily accessible. Throw in the CFKids and the PMenu journals and I have a ton of good material coming monthly all for less than $100 per year.

I'm with Franz - I can't see why you would pay the 500 bucks - for the name? surely it's not worth that.

It has been said before that Gym Jones is geared more towards SSP (Sport specific Prep) as opposed to GPP (General Physical Prep) Crossfit/Emanait etc... Therefore although the workouts he provides are often innovative and can be good, we should remember that they are part of someone's regimen for a particular sport.

$500 per year is a little excessive- but then again, maybe he is doing it to isolate himself, it is clear that he thrives in the exclusivity of it- he may well be pissed off with all the enquiries from people who have only ever lifted a beer can before watching the 300DVD features, whatever anyone says about Twight- he will be doing it for a purpose. We can all speculate what that purpose is though

Twain was all about exclusivity and superiority it seemed to me. Having nicked what he was taught when he became a Crossfit Certified Coach and made it his own, he seemed to employ the Fight Club marketing strategy. But hey, it works, there will be some that pay it, and if he only gets 100, that's enough to live off.

I did think that the Gym Jones site had an air of being up it's own backside about it (although I was kind of sucked into it when I read the 300 articles and saw that they train Jeremy Jones), but credit where credit's due I suppose - that dude gets results. But they can go fudge themselves if they think I'm paying 500 bills to find out how.

$500 is clownshoes for a subscription to a fitness site. For that kind of money I'd be expecting......well, a very different kind of website if I'm honest!
No pain, no biscuits.
