Was watching some weightlifting clips from the olympics and saw this clip of a guy dislocating his elbow snatching:
video not for the squeemish...
Just got me thinking about the injuries people accumulate doing high intensity/heavy training... anyone done anything notably bad?
Worst i've done is cycling into a hedge, the fall broken by brambles and nettles!

Funnily enough, none of my injuries have ever been sustained through lifting heavy, they all came from either sporting/martial arts mishaps or just me being stupid somewhere (I see a rope or bar and I just have to climb it, swing from it or do some other form of stupid stunt that usually gets me injured
Let's see, injuries from sports or martial arts: Broken ankle, broken wrist, dislocated shoulders (both), broken ribs, fractured jaw, multiple broken fingers, dislocated thumbs (both), major concussions, torn medial and lateral meniscus, torn (and reconstructed) ACL, fractured cheek plus a load of other minor contusions.
Oh, I did slice off the pad of my thumb once with a pair of scissors that required 27 micro stitches to stop the bleeding, but that was just me being stupid in general.
Injuries from lifting: Broken toe when I dropped a 25 Kilo plate on it. Other than that, nowt.

Ice it when it happens to reduce swelling, compress the area (standard RICE stuff), then use an elbow support or strapping until the area returns to normal (neoprene wraps are normally pretty good for elbows - about the only thing they are good for!). I have a book that shows how to support the joint with zinc-oxide tape at home; I will try to scan in the relevant pages later if you are interested.
If the symptoms persist, go see a physio to determine what is causing causing the HE (could be you damaged the cartilage the first time or a have a muscle imbalance across the joint).
