A quick question for you folk :)

Found some pretty d*mn cheap 'rubber' hex dumbells for sale.
However, they are actually rubber coated.
Is it the same as bumpers in the the decent ones are entirely rubber?
Or are all 'rubber' hex DBs pretty much rubber coated?
Any other experience based on differing quality of hex DBs would be appreciated too :)

Cheers

Rubber hex are solid rubber but the reasons for rubber being preferred are different than the reasons we want solid rubber bumpers. Bumpers allow for safe and relatively damage free dumping of failed Oly lifts and protect your bar when dumping. Rubber dumbbells are preferred for greater comfort for cleans, thrusters push press etc. There is rarely a real need to dump dumbbells although you tend to find reasons when you have solid rubber bells. So your rubber coated ones may be OK - purely a comfort issue. TBH though, the only rubber coated ones I have seen were 10kg and under and came in lovely pastel shades ...

Thanks mate, that's really useful.

Hmmm.

These ones range from 30kg-50kg so I think I would find a few reasons to dump them... ;)
