Bah Humbug. No sign of mine today. I am waiting on that and an order of protein/liquid egg whites from myprotein. I hate waiting :(

Feeling really burned out and tired today. Figuring it being a few things coupled together; I dropped my calorie intake to drop a few fat pounds (might go up again tomorrow) and I have not really had a decent rest day in almost two weeks. My 3-1-2-1 plan is going to hell because my scheduled rest days fall on football training days so i end up doing lots of sprints, push-ups, throwing etc. Add that to the Krav Maga and Kickboxing on scheduled workout days and I am not getting the recovery I need. I am waking up tired and lacking any sort of drive; case in point, I fell asleep in the waiting room at Kwik Fit while they changed a tyre - not well renowned for being a quite peaceful place conducive to sleep ;)

Decided to skip the WOD but go to kickboxing tonight, then tomorrow I will not lead the PT work at training. If I do, I know I will be sucked in to working out right along with them!

Yesterday's results were indicative of OT too. I went for 3x3's again and really struggled with the squats. After the performance last week I added weight but failed after just 2 reps at 140. Dropped bak to the 135 I did with ease last week and really had to fight for the reps. Shoulder press stalled at 65 too, I was hoping for 70, or at least 67.5.

We'll see what a few days of lighter work does for me on Friday.

It definitely sounds like you need a few days of max reps with an armchair mate.

Rest is not a four letter word.... ;)

Yup, that's my problem; I hate taking day off and it always bites me in the a$$. I think once I am back on the 3-1-3-1 WOD schedule I will rotate a clear rest Cycle every two months or so to try to prevent this happening again.

Wow, been a few days since I posted to my trog. Let's see, took it easy at the end of last week. Thursday was complete rest then Fr/Sa/Su I just did the burpees so I didn't have hundreds to do this week. Feeling a lot better now, my arms have actually stopped aching. All set for my three benchmarks again. Did Fran this morning and as expected I didn't improve. I can't blame the MEBB stuff though, I was sick through a lot of the month and then burned out when I tried to push it coming back which I think affected me more than I realise.

Still, looking forward to doing the benchmarks again to see how things have affected me. I have to admit, I am missing doing the WOD's, and it seems in the month I have been doing other things there have been some real 'fun' ones that I would have liked to have had a crack at. I think I will go back to following the main site next week; my original reasonning for the MEBB was a feeling of lack of strength work in the past WOD cycles, but this seems to have shifted recently and I am seeing a good mix of Metcon and ME work anyway. I have decided to schedule a rest cycle every 2 months to try to mitigate burn-out so we'll see how that goes.

Benchmark 1: Fran
Date completed: 10/6/08
As RX'd: Yes
Result: 5:17
Previous completion date: 9/1/08
Previous result: 5:18

Difference: -1s

Notes:
[sarcasm] Wow, a whole drop of one second, colour me impressed ;) [/sarcasm].

Actually, as I said, not too disheartened by this, I wasn't expecting great shakes on it. The first set of thrusters and pull-ups were good though, 21 and 21, no rest. I have to work on my speed for thrusters I think. Pull-up kips were odd today, a combination between the regular kip and the butterfly. I wasn't going so far forward and the leg flip was more pronounced. Seems to work so I will try it out in a few days on Angie.

Still dislike Fran intensely: started getting that nervous feeling walking to the gym and it got worse from there. Really dizzy at the end and felt like hurling. Had to lay down for a good minute to 90 seconds. There was a BB type lifter in there this morning and he was giving me all kinds of funny looks at the thrusters and then when I was laying in a pile at the end.

Been playing with Thrusters for the football team because it's a really good simulation of the action of a Jammer machine, which is great for football related strength yet rarely seen in the UK. We worked on some of them sans weight on the field yesterday, then had the line men and linebackers doing the motion with tackle bags. The core stabilization required for those things is immense, they are weighted more at the bottom so counterbalancing is essential. Naturally they all hated them ;)

Benchmark 2: CFT
Date completed: 10/7/08
As RX'd: Yes
Result: 863.5 Sq:140 P:80 DL: 172.5
Previous completion date: 9/2/08
Previous result: 847 Sq:137.5 P:77.5 DL: 170

Difference: +16.5

Notes:
Some good invreases on the month there despite the more than usual days off. Only 2.5 kilos per exercise which is a lot less than I was hoping for, but I have to consider the month gone by wasn't exactly representative of a good workout month for me. Again, I probably could have hit 142.5 on the squat but I went to 145 on the third set and failed (just) and it's "three tries you're out" on the CFT. Next time I will hit the 145 so it will be a moot point.

Squashed my fingers trying to rack a squat warm-up set which still hurts like hell. 120 on the bar so when the fingers get caught it's not pleasant. Gone an intersting shade of blue already but thankfully nothing broken and no blood.

Edited to alter press number, I left it at 77.5 instead of 80. Just over bodyweight now so actually pretty happy with that.

Benchmark 3: Angie
Date completed: 9/3/2008
As RX'd: Y
Result: 17:24
Previous completion date: 9/3/2008
Previous result: 17:09

Difference: +15

Notes:
Little slower, but still in the same timescale so I'm not worried; it was always going to be tough to improve on the last performance.

I have been pondering what I want to do now. I was going to continue with the MEBB for a bit but to be honest I am missing following the WODs from the main site so i think I might go back to doing that, especially as there is more strength work going on recently, the MEBB seems a little redundant, even though I am still convinced it works and will have beneficial effects when used in conjunction with CrossFit metcon work.

Been away for the weekend so no real workouts done, just burpees, 8-counts, pushups and situps etc before bed and in the morning.

Woke up this morning with stuffed up head and sore throat so I really didn't feel like a metcon so I did the posted deadlift WOD instead. I may stay on the same cycle rather than a cycle behind, it's not too big of a deal to check the WOD over the phone when I wake up. If the WOD calls for equipment I can't get that day (ropes etc), then I can look at swapping it out.

Convinced the wife to get me a decent oly bar for christmas. She didn't want to because it's not fun but I convinced her I would be using it almost every day so it's a good gift ;) Means closer to Christmas I will be looking to order from Jordans. I am thinking of going for 5 and 10's bumpers thenrubber coated weights for the rest. Going to clear out the garage so I can keep them all in there and stop paying gym fees.

WOD: Deadlift 3, 3, 3, 3, 3
Date Posted:
Date Completed:
As Rx'd: Y
Results: 130, 140, 150, 160, 165 (F:2)
Notes
Did this as an ascending weight lift, although according to the Hopper deck instructions for the same workout it should be 1.5-2 bodyweight, which would have meant 160 for all 5 sets. not sure I could have managed that but next time this comes up I may try it out and see how I get on. Only managed 2 at 165, but as it is only 7.5KG below my last CFT 1 RM I am pretty pleased with that.

No workout today, I am sick again. I think I have been ill more in the last month thn I have in the last few years combined. Hopefully it's just a run of bad luck and this will be the end of it. Normally I would train through, but as this is recurring I am thinking I need to make sure I recover full so I can come back stronger.

[sarcasm]So glad I took a sick day today[/sarcasm]

I've only had 13 hours of calls with clients to try to sort out their issues. Seems they upgraded their software to live without a going through a beta test AND without telling any of us in the software company that they were doing so. Got themselves in a whole world of hurt, which somehow now is all my fault. I probably wouldn't even mind so much if I was in client services, then at least I'd expect the calls but I'm in development and if they had asked BEFORE doing the upgrade I could have warned them not to do certain things, but no. Wouldn't be so bad if we did a word processor or something, but no, we supply thier entire treasury management solution. This is a multi-billion dollar company who just hosed their entire treasury operation until we can fix it. And people wonder why the financial markets are in chaos!

Sorry, had to vent. I feel like crap and now I will be working late tonight and up early tomorrow to try to get them in working order before the markets open again.

Wish I had the money to open up my own CF box....... :(

Still not working, having to build them a whole new security suite right now. Seems they not only upgraded but decided to run on Unix which we don't currently support (windows shop). Oh well, only 7 hours today on the call trying to trace the issue (looks like Oracle on Unix doesn't like some of our connection protocols). Lost my voice about 4 hours in so it was interesting communicating with the guys whose first language is French and couldn't hear me properly ;)

Felling a lot better although still getting hot and cold spells and the shakes every so often. Skipped Kickboxing but that's no big deal - that workout/martial arts class is a joke. I only do it because my wife and son enjoy it. Should be back to the WOD tomorrow though. Looking forward to something interesting. Thinking something with snatches in it. Guess we will see in the morning what coach has in store for us.....

LOL had to get one right eventually ;)

Should be doing this after work this evening before football training, just depends on how this client issue goes. Finally managed to find a database using the same settings that I can play with and have managed to replicate. Now just have to figure out the cause and fix it.

have I mentioned I hate my job?
