Hello all.

Found this site via Chet who I met at the crossfit Derby Olympic lifting seminar, which by the way was a great day.

Based in Shropshire and Derby. Not attended crossfit derby as of yet or done any of their workouts.

Don’t know how I came accross crossfit, but maybe through my reading of Frank Forencich’s books, Rosstraining etc.

The Olympic lifting seminar was my first experience of lifting, other than that it has always been bodyweight [land based] or kept fit through kayaking and some clambering.

Have a interest in somatic education and moving well.

Cheers

Chris

Welcome bud :D

(Chris was my lifting buddy on the day B))

I remember you saying that the Oly Seminar was your first experience of lifting on the day, but its just sunk in - seriously your first intro to lifting of any kind??

That's brilliant going for your first time!

Hello Nicky,

Somatic education, traditionally includes Alexander Technique, Feldenkrais, Eutony, Hanna Somatic Education among many others, all forms in one way or another of neuromuscular education.

They are all boil down to "better use of self" and differ from forms of physical therapy in that they are education and not therapy, and basically involve improving awareness.

I had alexander technique lessons for maybe a year on and off, and really helped with my paddling as an activity, and also being more aware meant i held less tension which in turn helped rid me of troublesome knots between shoulder blades and spine, and back injuries from 20+ years of paddling and racing kayaks. Then came across Feldenkrais and through that found Hanna Somatic Education.

Hi Chris, welcome to FuncKey
You are a MAN... take that Zone diet and throw it back at Sears and tell him "f*** you, I'm eating food without counting it". Embrace the 200+ pound range, bro, hug it...

Ookaaay, I know what Alexander Technique is. Never heard of the others. Want to give me a brief rundown on what they all are in a nutshell? Sounds interesting.
