Love the one handed lift. Takes a while to find the centre of balance but it's a great move. Feel pretty DOMd up today which always feels good if you know what I mean. Definitely going to keep progressing with it.

Not worried about the doc. A week or so up to the blood tests, I was eating too much diary fat (cream, cheese, etc) which I've since cut out anyway so it probably did push my total cholesterol up.

Nice work on the 1-arm deadlifts.
Interested to know your opinion on using straps for these (with my stumpy hooves I can lift a fair bit more using straps)

Various people have various opinions. Some of that opinion is based on fact, some based on 'not being a poof'.

Personally, I'd say straps are OK for 1RM type lifts. Using straps all the time robs you of improving grip strength. I did debate using my straps actually if only to keep my hand in the centre of the bar between reps. A few lifts had to be dropped as they were tipping.

This was why I was asking. Having only tried these for the first time the other day, I found the tipping to be a right pain. With a strap on (!) I was able to overcome the wibbling and lift more weight.
Couldn't agree more that they shouldn't be used routinely. I refer you back to your 1st answer above

are straps "functional"?

Of course they're not functional but then no one said that the one arm deadlift was being used as a functional exercise. :D There's a lot of dudes and dudettes on this forum that follow strongman style training and they would have no problem using belts and straps if it made them stronger.

I try and follow common sense over dogmatic ideals :) If I could lift a bit more and lift cleaner (not having to drop because of tipping, risk of skinning calves, etc) then I don't see a problem.

Each to their own and all that. :)

Monday 20th June

Warm Up - Push Jerk
3 x 50kg
3 x 50kg
3 x 50kg

Back Squats:
5 x 50kg
5 x 60kg
5 x 70kg
5 x 75kg
5 x 75kg

Decided to put my toolbox (ooh-er) behind me so that if I couldn't get back up then at least I can sit and get from under the bar (work out alone, no spotters).Toolbox is only 10" or so high so no chance of not getting below parallel. Gave me a bit more confidence to push past the wobbles.

Metcon:
3 Rounds
400m Run
10 (Jumping, controlled descent) pull ups
T: 7:12

Good one that. An hour later and I feel like I've been punched in the gut by Hayes.

sorry, that was said a little tongue in cheek...

Haha, sorry. Our company makes forum software and I lose my sense of perspective after replying to customers all day.

Didn't mean to jump on it either. :)

Pretty pleased with my training at the moment. Been a few years since I've put a determined effort into my training and I expected to be really unfit. Obviously no where near where I was a few years ago but not as bad as I feared.

Onwards and upwards.
