Hi all...
Felt I needed to contribute to FK.UK as I have gleaned so much from it. I am not an Oly lifting expert or vastly experienced coach, but I do know about blisters.
Follow the link below for a brief introduction to Blisters, taping techniques to follow, check out the photos of yours truly from SF Selection... trust me... I know about blisters!
Hope it enhances the forum a little.

Have used tape in the past for things like the three peaks but not so good for long distance triathlons - any advice for that?

Unfortunately the very nature of Triathlon makes it hard to keep the tape in place for the duration. In this case gradually conditioning the skin of the feet MUST factor in your training regime. However the following pointers may help:
- Apply the tape at least an hour before the event to make sure it is effective. This way you can reapply if needed.
- Ensure the skin is free from hair and dry... use a towel to dry off any sweat even if the feet feel dry. Also dry your hands to prevent moisture getting on the adhesive as you handle the tape.
- Apply generous amounts of tape, Think about the direction that clothing and equipment will rub and tape it accordingly... i'e. a vertical strip from the heel to mid section of the Achilles to combat the friction caused by the back of the trainer.
- Once the tape is on, rub it hard to generate heat to help the adhesive stick, this step alone can dramatically increase the adhesiveness of the tape.
- Try to avoid the edges and corners rolling up when you put your socks on.
Hope this helps. I will add the next Blister prevention article showing the techniques in pictures as soon as I can.

Some good advise in that link mate
I like alot of soldiers used to rely on zinc oxide tape alot but I never really got on with the stuff. It always ended in more pain when 9 or 10 miles down the road it decided to start peeling and rolling back on itself
(very annoying when you have 55 lbs on your back)
I now know where my 'hot spots' are likely to be, usually the inside of my right heel, and find the best option (personnally) is to wash and thoroughly dry my feet prior to any weighted marches or long boot runs. Then use heavy duty duck tape to cover the spots and powder the feet.
The duck tape is great because it creates a slick surface and reduces friction.
I think it has to be said also that a good pair of boots and socks are a must..... my choice is LOWA or ALTBERG with issue desert socks
