So do you take it as standard that the Xmas period is a time of fat mass gain? Or, do you restrict yourself and have the family moan at you? Or do you just enter into the foodie galore spirit and accept the inevitable? In the sense that you train your ass of for 50 wks a year! Or, do what I normally do and that is up my volume/output to counter the excess calories, and eat whatever over the period, but still being consistent training wise.
"The idiots are self regarding consumer slaves oblivious to the paradox of their uniform individuality. They sculpt their hair to casual perfection, they wear their waistbands below their balls. They babble into hand-held twit machines about that cool e-mail of the woman being bummed by a wolf. Their cool friend made it. He's an idiot too. Welcome to the age of stupidity, hail the rise of the idiots!"

Charlie Brooker & Chris Morris.

"Don't get hung up on the stopwatch or times, or even weight lifted, think about technique, technique, technique and listening to your body. You will not perform better every session and that is set in stone. Test your self every month keep a written journal not just a forum, a place where you can keep personal notes that you can read to motivate yourself. Don't compare yourself to others when you are working out and likewise do not think that you are already fit as fcuk!!! As someone will always be in front and behind you, ultimate confidence in your abilities yes, but arrogance no, there is a fine line.
But most of all do the things you hate above the things you like or are good at, this will make you a better athlete. Save the things you like for recreational sessions. But ultimately enjoy it, even when you hate it! And finally remember the mind will always give in before the body!"

Here endeth the lesson.

Personally I have a couple of days of just pigging out but try to be in a good place up to Xmas day. And almost just treat it like a couple of rest days with bad eating.

I pig out on dark choc, and 'healthy' food. I normally get bored so end up walking, running, or cycling at some point. It's as close to win/win as I can get it. Posted Image

I'm a goody two-shoes Posted Image....

Actually, not really. I just eat whatever I feel like for a few days with no guilt so long as it doesn't contain Gluten, which since cutting it out I have a reaction to now if I eat it. PITA though - I lurves me some mince pies!

Oddly, my favourite part was always the Turkey and veg anyway so its no big stretch to stay on target at Christmas dinner - it's the chocolates that get to me afterwards

Way I figure it, what the hell. Have some fun, have a beer or two then get back to it in the New Year.

Sainsbury's Free From mince pies
's all am sayin'

christmas dinner for us is normally a pretty good meal tbh - if you keep away from the boiled, roasted and mashed tatties. Scoff the chicken and veg soup (homemade), Pile up the turkey and veg, and then break all the rules for dessert.

Nice one - didn't see these when I was shopping last week - I'll investigate further when we next get to Sainsbury's.

What, the boredom, or the aversion to gluten?! Posted Image I can only watch so much TV/chat/play games before I get twitchy!

I can pig out with the best of them, don't you worry about that. Posted Image

December is my mince pie and hot-whiskey month! When they become availible, I add in christmas puddings and the like. I'll still train but get a little fat. Will tighten things up a bit in the new year.

Made some mince pies this past weekend. Coconut and almond flour pastry with home made filling. Very good and taste as good as the "real" thing. Even the wife couldn't tell the difference.

And you're not sharing the recipe because...

'cos it's in a book that I didn't have to hand in the office.

The filling recipe is a variation on one my mum has used for years. There was extra filling left over but it's keeping nicely in the fridge until I make some more.

Pie crust
1/2 cup coconut flour
1/2 cup almond flour
1-2 Tbsp maple syrup (OK, I used 2 tbsp ;))
1/4 cup coconut oil (melted)
2 eggs
2 tsp xantham gum
1/4 tsp salt (optional)

Mix it all together until it's a dough. Roll it out and cut and put pastry in the baking tin.
Oven on Gas mark 4 and pre-bake cups and tops for about 4-6 minutes to "blind bake" the base and prevent the filling from leaking. Remove and fill with mincemeat and put the "lids" on. Bake for another 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.

Filling
125g sultanas
100g dried currants
4 apples - peeled, cored and sliced
1 tablespoon orange zest
5 tablespoons orange juice
125ml apple juice
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1-2 tbsp Maple syrup or honey

Stir the sultanas, currants, apples, orange zest, orange juice and apple juice together in a pan. Simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until apples are very soft, about 20 minutes. Stir in the maple syrup, cinnamon and cloves until well blended. Refrigerate until ready to use.

The recipe book I used for the pastry is this one Cooking with Coconut. Has a load of good gluten free cake, pie and bread recipes that I'm going to try out.
