Hi guys
Im in desparate need of help!!!
Im looking for decent size tractor tyres to use with my fighters i train &
possibly bootcamps so a mix of heavy & lighter tyres would be good.

Ive read plenty of articles on american sites about getting 440kg tyres from tyre yards and stuff
but im having trouble doing it in the UK. (ok a 400kg tyre might be a bit much for me at the mo)

Does anyone here have any tips on where to get them for the lowest cost possible if not free?
Is it as simple as contacting recycling plants or farmers?

Cheers for any help
Robb!

Robb,
Am I right in thinking you're in Witham?
If you do have any luck give us a shout as I'm also interested in getting a big tyre.

Also, you don't happen to be the chap who runs the bootcamp at benton hall do you?

any of the large Tyre companies specialising in commercial tyres will be only too happy to give them to you

we have a place in NW london like that, i went in and asked and they took me up to wherethey store the old ones i came away with 5 medium sized ones and 2 large ones (the smaller ones are great for indoor flipping and sledge work and the larger ones are tough outdoor for flipping

many tractor tyres are on the light side, but any farm with tractors will probably have a couple of old ones lying around as many of the tyre companies dont have enough storage for them and tend to leave them on site

I just did a search on eBay. Some places were selling for silly money, other were cheap as chips. Worked out an inexpensive deal to hire a van and go pick up 4 or 5.

This place is in Lincolnshire, but at 99p per tyre it might be worth the trip - and I'm sure you could negotiate for a few extra ones at no charge ;)

it says on the description they are between £5-25, i'm guessing the 99p is to avoid ebay fees

Still cheap. That was just an example though; Chet and I picked up 5 tyres from a farm last year and paid 20 quid for the lot (could have had more at no extra cost, we just ran out of room in the transit ;) ). Found them on eBay. A lot of these places are just glad to be shot of them; it costs a fair amount to dispose of them correctly under govt guidelines so they just end up piling up on scrap land.

like i said most people are glad for you to take them it costs them money to have them taken away, they should pay you

if your in a farming area then any place that specialises in tyres for tractors or near a motorway tyres for HGV and they are giving them away

the place on e bay is just cashing in

place in or near hemel hempstead, place at staples corner (london) think also a place near highwycombe but may be the hemel one , any large haulier or JCB sales etc

I might have a source for the earth mover tyres although they will be few and far between. apparently the guy has to pay about £80-100 to dispose of them if he doesn't get them taken away when they're replaced! so I would try not to pay for them at all if I were you.
