I've recently started university at the grand old age of 23. I've not found much in the way of clubs I want to join, so me and a girl from my course are planning on making an outdoor fitness club, but I was wondering if there are likely to be any legalities surrounding fitness qualifications. The basic premise would be a bunch of people turn up, then anyone in the club can suggest a workout for the day (most likely running the sports pitches with calisnetics and some load carrying like sandbags and other people), and then also be a source for people who want to take part in outdoor sports like mountain biking and also being a way to make teams for races like Tough Guy. I wouldn't really delve into any weight-lifting for fear of hurting anyone, but do you reckon I could get away with running a club of this style without any qualifications? I am keen to get a sort of group training certificate, but I don't know which ones to get...

I believe if you aren't charging and it's just run as a society (not a sports club) you should be good to go. It's basically just a group of "like-minded" people getting together to work-out so as long as all of you are aware that this is not a sanctioned or "for profit" venture then there shouldn't be anything stopping you.

Which uni are you at?

I'm at Staffordshire University, Stoke-on-Trent University.

Thanks for your input, you put it a good way there. I'm looking to get some sort of fitness group qualification while I'm at university so I can teach at a globo gym and make some money.
