Hey guys and gals, Just thought I would give a brief intro as just thought I would sign up and be a proper member after enjoying some of the threads I have read on here.

A bit about me...well been working in gyms for a few years as a PT and am just undertaking the UKSCA accreditation (I know there will be a few flamers to their workshops and assessment day :P but I'm keeping an open mind around it all). If it helps matters I am looking at doing the CrossFit level 1 in the near future ;)

Also as a side note, I am looking at doing a kettlebell course around the London area and am happy to hear any opinions on the best ones to do... looked at LKB academy and KBT but not sure which will give most bang for my buck

Anyway best head off, clients to beast :D

Wayne.

Welcome Wayne. Not a lot wrong with the UKSCA, I a looking into it too. The level 1 stuff is a bit basic, but hopefully will pick up as it progresses.

I have a guy who used to train with me living in and around the High Wycombe area and he is looking for somewhere to train (he just joined the TV constabulary), so PM me with your details if you have room and I'll send them over to him.

Yeah did find the Level 1 rather basic, but then I suppose it is almost just a taster of what is to come...similar to when I was doing FA coaching back in the day...the Level 1 you just had to turn up but the Level 3 took a lot more time and involved getting coaching hours signed off before you could even go into the assessment. However, I do find it strange that the UKSCA allow you to jump in at Level 3 and pass just by attending the assessment day. This to me does sound a little suspect, as mentioned by some others on the forum. You might have had very little coaching experience but still obtain accreditation over someone who has years of experience but just doesn't coach they way they like. It's all about jumping through hoops at the end of the day.

I'm working at Bisham Abbey at present the gym is quite small but there is access to a couple of olympic bars but we have no set lifting platforms in the public gym unfortunately which is a bit rubbish, although it is due a refurb in the new year so fingers crossed. Definitely get him to pop down though, I'm sure the membership girls will sort him out (not that they like guys who look after themselves or anything ;) ).

Hello and welcome mate!

Good luck with the UKSCA stuff.

What's your timescales for doing a KB course? I know of some options in the slightly-less-near-future!

Isn't Bisham Abbey where the GB weightlifters used to train before they moved to Leeds? I'm sure I remember my coach mentioning this place.

Well I was looking to do it quite soonish but I can always hold fire as I do have the weightlifting and plyo workshops for the UKSCA coming up in Oct. Always looking for informed opinions as I'd rather do something properly than half baked :)

Yeah the weightlifters did used to train down Bisham until they gutted the place and re-developed it. They still have an Elite gym but you need a British Olympic Passport to train in there (which I don't possess, although I do possess the means to pop in after hours to make sure all equipment is stored correctly ;) )
