Not sure but I think it is a bit of both or the bit in the middle is shorter.
You won't get a needle bearing bar at 6ft tho'.

10's and 5's would be a good starting point I think for you Nicky. I have started with 10's and 15's and cheap smaller ones and am now looking to add weight.

So, how much would a bar (one of them needle jobbies), 2 x 10s and 2 x 5s cost? Am not committing to anything til I find out the damage!

So, anyone suggest where to get one of those needle whatsit bars? As bumpers aren't much good without one. I looked on the York website but it doesn't say anything about the bars, so how do I know what sort they are??

Apologies - I was wrong - I don't have the needle bearing bar but have one of York's International Bearing bars (not the same - needle bar is £830!!!).
Anyhoo - still a great bar which has stood up well to my dropping etc.

the one I have is here:
http://www.yorkfitne...680kg-Test.html
or there is a womans version:
http://www.yorkfitne...450kg-Test.html

or the needle bar:

Hi Nicky,

is this what you are looking for http://www.yorkfitne...450kg-Test.html. These are bearing bars but York don't have any in stock at the moment. They are better for olympic lifts. They should be getting delivery in May. I will have access to these so let me know and I can speak with them re cost and shipping. I have set up a deal with York which amongst other thing also allows free delivery for up to 30kg.

Yeah, one of them. How come I couldn't find that page when I looked? I hate computers! That's a bit more reasonably priced than £830 - don't think I can quite stretch to that!

Oh, someone was saying about Daventry weren't they. I need to check that option out too...

Right, in a fit of enthusiasm after Saturday's oly lifting seminar I've ordered a 5' bar from Andy's site. The York site says it weighs 16.4kg. What a weird weight. Ah well, it's actually about right for me to practice the oly lifts with.

Am planning to buy some bumpers when I actually have some money, but in the meantime I'll get some 2.5 and 1.25kg plates - was just going to get the little metal sort, unless anyone has a better suggestion? I'm not keen to get bigger-sized rubber coated ones as they take up more room and, much to my disappointment, only come in black - the pretty colours start at 5kg

Was thinking of getting a 20kg plate - well, 2 actually! - the rubber coated ones are pretty cheap, and then I can do squats and DLs too. My question for the panel is: has anyone got any of these, and how does the rubber coating stand up to wear and tear? If it's going to come off a year down the line I'd rather get some other sort now.

they'll either be used in my garden, or in my lounge which has a rug... I won't be dropping them though, unless I have to. If I ever get good enough to clean or snatch 56.4kg, I'll invest in some bumpers then!! I do tend to look after things, but obviously they need to stand up to a bit of rough treatment.
