Today, meet?

Andy Mac

Name: Andy McKenzie

Location: Newport, South Wales (originally Scotland)

How did you get started in functional fitness? Since I watched Bruce Lee and Rocky films many years ago (didn?t we all train after that??).  I spent 16 years in the Army and majority as a Para so for me I have always trained with intensity and purpose and ultimately function.

What are you currently training for? Fit As F*ck Challenge in Denmark as it's my first CrossFit type event.  However my main training goal is always longevity and to be doing this when I am 112 years old!

What is your proudest achievement so far? Getting out of the Army and doing the things I set out to do: work in professional sport, get my ASCC and open my own gym/spa!

What is your ultimate goal? To be still doing crazy exercise routines when I am in my 90s (A bit like the old man in one of the Guinness adverts).  Also get to the CrossFit Games and compete for a top spot!

Favourite exercise? Any complex involving the Olympic lifts – you can't beat them!

Favourite training quote/motto? I live by this: ?All achievement is the triumph of persistence? – John Rennie, and one that I’ve seen recently that rings true with hard physical training: “The hardest things that we do are the sweetest to remember!”
