Are you an FK.Weightlifting Member?
This is a reminder that you have until the end of June to get your competition lift in for the Two Hands Clean and Jerk behind Neck. This competition is the 2nd Lift of the Quarter of 2010. Both key members and full members can participate in this.

If you submitted a lift for the Left Hand Barbell Snatch last quarter, make sure you submit a lift this month to be in the running for the annual rankings (the total of your 4 quarterly lifts).

If this is your first Lift of the Quarter Entry – welcome! This lift will still be ranked individually so it’s all to play for!

Lift of the Quarter
For those that are unfamiliar with The Lift of the Quarter (LoQ) – it is a year round competition run by the British Weightlifting Association (BWLA), based on the Odd Lifts.

A different lift is specified each quarter, from a pool of 32 lifts. Within the quarter you can make as many attempts as you like at this lift. The results are collected at the end of each quarter and ranked according to percentage of bodyweight to create a ranking for each lift. Over the year the ranking scores are added together to create an annual ranking of lifters and clubs. The various age groups are identified, as are male and female participants.

How do I do this lift?
Here are the official rules:

“The barbell is “cleaned” from the ground to the shoulders. The bar must not touch the chest below the line of the nipples or before resting on shoulders or arms fully bent. Now the bar must be lifted over the head and lowered to rest on the shoulders behind the neck.

Standing erect in this position the bar is now jerked overhead to arms’ length. The lifter returns to an erect position with feet in line and on a plane parallel to the lifters front with the bar locked overhead. The “down” signal is given and the weight is lowered to the floor.

Incorrect movements:- Any standard fault arising in the “Clean”. More than one attempt at the jerk. Uneven extension during the jerk or pressing out. Dropping the bar after the “down” signal.”

So basically – clean the barbell, get it behind your neck, and jerk it!

How do I get involved?
If you are not an FK.WL member:
Read about FK.WL here
Then join here
Then get stuck in!

If you are an FK.WL member:
Send a short video clip to chet@funckey.co.uk. We will assess it, and as long as your lift is valid, FK.WL will submit the attempt on your behalf. If the lift is not valid we will give you feedback on how to correct any mistakes.

If you are an FK.WL member training at an FK.Associate gym:
Perform any attempts in front of the Coach, who will assess each attempt.

Send all videos/results to chet@funckey.co.uk along with your bodyweight at time of lift.

Why should I get involved?
  • It’s fun!
  • Test your all round strength with this multi-faceted lift
  • Be ranked nationally as a individual in this All Round Lifting Competition
  • Be ranked nationally as part of FK.WL – we are all round lifters!
So have a go (or a lot of goes) and have fun – look forward to seeing your results!

i don't really understand the point of this one, since you basically have to press the bar before you can jerk it

It doesn't have to be a press to full extension mate - you just need to get it behind your head.

I'm not sure that having a point is the point of the odd lifts....

This sounds hilariously round-the-houses, I shall enjoy having a go!
