the last line is the most significant I feel...
"Pain is weakness leaving the body"
"If you stay ready, you don't have to get ready"
"The mind always gives out before the body. You’ll pass out before you die."
"We'll be as we are when all the fools around us fade away"
"Successful men and women are very careful in reaching decisions and very persistent and determined in action thereafter."

WTF..... I also just read that a study by Benson & Hedges states that smoking does not give you cancer or does kill you! FFS, another complete c##k of a study that people will read and take as another excuse to not drink that Devils brew H20!

As I recall, at no point when I was in the desert did I think Hmmm I must make us a tasty beverage. More give me more water FFS!!!!!!

What I think T does have going for it other than of course being a diuretic and having caffine in it!!! Is that it does give a psyhcological lift to people, as has been scientifically proven time and time again by the "hmmmmm tetley" study under taken by the independent study group Tetley T.org.

Wow..... I'm bored!
"The idiots are self regarding consumer slaves oblivious to the paradox of their uniform individuality. They sculpt their hair to casual perfection, they wear their waistbands below their balls. They babble into hand-held twit machines about that cool e-mail of the woman being bummed by a wolf. Their cool friend made it. He's an idiot too. Welcome to the age of stupidity, hail the rise of the idiots!"

Charlie Brooker & Chris Morris.

"Don't get hung up on the stopwatch or times, or even weight lifted, think about technique, technique, technique and listening to your body. You will not perform better every session and that is set in stone. Test your self every month keep a written journal not just a forum, a place where you can keep personal notes that you can read to motivate yourself. Don't compare yourself to others when you are working out and likewise do not think that you are already fit as fcuk!!! As someone will always be in front and behind you, ultimate confidence in your abilities yes, but arrogance no, there is a fine line.
But most of all do the things you hate above the things you like or are good at, this will make you a better athlete. Save the things you like for recreational sessions. But ultimately enjoy it, even when you hate it! And finally remember the mind will always give in before the body!"

Here endeth the lesson.

To be fair to the study, it would not have been published in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition without being reviewed and vetted by the journal's editorial board, who would have had nothing to do with the people sponsoring the study. Without scientific validity, the paper wouldn't have been published.
Sadly, that's the way a hell of a lot of scientific investigation work gets funded these days, since the businesses have more cash than the research councils. My PhD on probiotics is funded by, wait for it, a probiotic company! First time I had to present to them, I had to tell them that I had found the exact opposite of what they were looking for! Oops.
Regarding the dehydration in tea, it basically doesn't. It does cause some diuresis, but not enough to give you a net loss, so a cup of tea's overall effect is to increase your hydration levels. Come to the CF Reading Nutrition seminar and I'll tell you more. ;)
Saying that, I tend to agree with Mark, I don't want tea on a hot day, although tea with sugar may be absorbed faster due to the way we think water is absorbed (this mechanism has still not been uncovered).
Oh, and I'm with Chronyx - study or not, you ain't taking away my cuppa!
Maximise your training and minimise the bullshit.

I always want tea, regardless of the weather. Cold weather - tea - 100 degrees outside - Tea. In fact I have a cup right now :)

Decaf after 12 though as per my new resolution and it's helping with sleep (could be the dropping of the litres (!) of coffee per day too :))

I always have the same argument about tea and coffee - "you shouldn't drink it because caffeine is a diuretic" - riiiight, the amount of caffeine in tea offsets the amount of fluid I am intaking - Shut up Fool! Posted Image

Tell me I'm mad but my personal experience is that tea does dehydrate me.
And anyway no matter who does the peer reviews, any study paid for by a beneficial stakeholder should be burned on publication whatever the outcome.
