I did my first UKSCA workshop this weekend and Leeds Met Uni. What a great facility. Makes me wish I was a student!

Really enjoyed the course run by Clive Brewer and Duncan French. Made me chuckle when I turned up in my 'Crossfit' hoodie. The comment later in day that Crossfit is s*** got everyone laughing.

I cant believe how tired I was after 2 days Oly lifting for 6 hours per day. Couldnt get my 6-7 meals in either. Not good for a bodybuilder.

I would highly recommend workshop for anyone wanting intro to Oly lifts, especially if you work with athletes. I am hopefully starting shortly at Caged Steel as conditioner so should be different to my rugby background. Only got 1 class per week with the fighters initially but its a start.

Was it the UKSCA staff that said CrossFit was s***? Just interesting to know as I would like to go through UKSCA some time soon
I'm like a goddamn Navy Seal and Olympic gold medalist wrapped in a f***ing suit of body armour. I'm f***ing elite.

i dont wanna say who said it but the consensus was that most crossfit 'coaches' just shout a lot and dont actually coach.
I was going to get into a conversation that there are good and bad coaches everywhere but it wasnt worth it.

I enjoy crossfit as part of my own programme. I dont follow mainsite as i feel I need to work on certain areas as a bodybuilder and now novice weightlifter and a 5 mile run with my arthritic foot isnt gonna help.

If you want to work with athletes from various sports, i would certainly look into the UKSCA. I am hoping to continue and get accredited next year.

PS, sorry for swearing Chet.

Interesting! As a UK body targeting strength and conditioning coaches i find it disturbing they would say that. Surely their job is to coach people and make them better coaches. To then say that coaches that train a certain way are useless is worrying.

The generalisation is a usual thing with people from outside of the CrossFit community. That's like me saying all bodybuilders are banged up on roids (not you obviously). Seems they'll be happy to take our cash though and let us do their courses.

Aah well what can you do.

I know what you mean. Every time I mention that i compete in bodybuilding I am usually met by same response. I must be on the gear or a vain, posing ponce who isnt as strong as he looks. I am trying to remedy the second one and I am natural for life so that doesnt bother me.

Some coaches feel that their way is best. The coaches on the course did emphasise that there is no one way to design a programme or indeed perform an exercise. Crossfit is up there to be shot at and Coach Glassman seems to thrive on it. I like to use elements of all programmes to find one that suits me.
