Hi Lisa and Happy Birthday ;D

I am a bit annoyed now that I am not the token Irish person here anymore. I was so proud of that title

I can recommend the powerbar for pull-ups (not that I can do many pull-ups). I couldn't find a supplier in Ireland for them so I bought mine here They were the cheapest for delivery to Ireland. Also, as an alternative there is this door accessory I can certainly recommend the seller and the door gym does look much better than the powerbar.

Hi everyone, thanks for the birthday wishes. :)

I've been so busy with work that I've forgotten to post, was prompted to think of FK.UK when I re-joined my local gym last night.

I'm still doing a little bit at home but I've found that it's good to have the structure and routine of packing my bag and tootling down to the gym, especially as I work from home and need to get out of the house every so often!

So, I did some rowing intervals then squats, deadlifts, pushups and bench presses just to get back in the saddle.

I looked into Crossfit but I don't want to have to commit to doing that almost every day. Three times per week in the gym and all the cycling, swimming, skipping and walking I can fit in is a better plan for me at the moment.

Diet has also improved after going skew-whiff during the end of March and April. I'm blaming all the conferences, courses and meetings I've been going to lately in hotels for my excess consumption of coffee and biscuits and the general disruption of my routine. Excuses, excuses!
I've pretty much eliminated wheat from my diet and I've been eating loads of veg, good protein, fruit, nuts and some wholegrains. I've had to almost completely cut out coffee (never drank it at home but still) as it was turning me into a twitching crazy woman.

Think I'll start up a training log but I want to get over my first two weeks in the gym so I can be sure it's not just evangelical zeal. :P

Hello again. Bummer about the coffee. It doesn't do me any good but I need it! I try to stick to 1 cup a day, but sometimes it's 2.

Joining the gym's a good thing I reckon. I work out at home some of the time, but it does me good to have a change of scenery, so i can't see me leaving my gym even though I've threatened that I will if they don't get the equipment I want!

On the Crossfit front, you can always play around with any of the workouts that you fancy doing. I don't do the WODs (most of them make me go 'urggh, no, don't want to do that'!), but the ones that I do like the sound of I do, or nick bits of them and add in my own stuff. Just treat it as a resource, not a religion. ;)

Hi Nicky. :) My gym isn't perfect and has a relatively limited amount of equipment but it's a 2 minute cycle away and pretty cheap so it'll do. But as you say, the change of scenery is good and also even being in that room puts me in a training frame of mind. At least this way I can write my gym sessions into my diary and treat them like appointments rather than something I "must do" at some stage in the day when a get a chance. It's all about tricking the old brainbox for me and I love it once I get started.

I don't miss the coffee much at all, I just end up drinking it when I'm out. I've made it my mission never to drink bad coffee again! If I'm going to have just a few cups a week, they're going to be good stuff. I've had to lay off the tea too, any more than 2 cups a day (I've been known to drink up to 6 or 7  ) makes me feel very sluggish. It's herbal and green tea all the way now.

Oh and howya Garreth!

Welcome back :)

I more or less gave up the coffee too. Like yourself, I never really drank it at home. Work was a different situation. I needed it to give me a kick a few times throughout the day. Without it now I am too awake in work

What do you classify as bad coffee? Personally I think that most a lot of coffee shops sell bad blends.

Now, you really got my attention when you said herbal/green tea! I rarely drank them before but now I am addicted. I think I have about 7 different teas on the go at any one time.

PS. Start up that trog before Chet nags you :D
