Hi everyone. I'm Lisa from Ireland. :) Found this forum through Gubernatrix's site.

I'm a relative newcomer to weights but I'm making my way slowly. I'm interested in the whole Crossfit thing but the only Irish one is too far away for regular attendance.
I mainly workout at home and I'm still trying to figure out a way of fitting a pull-up somewhere in my house!

Hi and welcome Lisa :D

Whereabouts are you in Ireland?

You can definitely do CrossFit at home - lots of folk do.

In terms of pull-ups at home - have you seen the Powerbar?

Hi Chet. I'm in Kildare. Suppose you could do Crossfit at home, I've just been looking up a lot of stuff on the London Crossfit site, just need to convert that to action.

Thanks for the link, I'll look into that. :)

Hi Lisa welcome
You are a MAN... take that Zone diet and throw it back at Sears and tell him "f*** you, I'm eating food without counting it". Embrace the 200+ pound range, bro, hug it...

Hi Lisa!

Welcome, glad you checked the site out! You are definitely in the right place for getting into Crossfit.

I'm in a similar position to you as I am miles away from any Crossfit affiliates so I am doing things solo. I'll also be posting about this on my website, so keep in touch.

Cheers,

Bonjour!

I'm nowhere near any CF affiliates and just make do with my local park and gym.

Welcome Lisa
Plenty of folk on this board started out or still operate from home (myself included).
If you are struggling for ideas then ask away.

Thanks for all the welcomes. :)

I'm about 45kms from the Irish Crossfit centre in Tallaght but I hate driving to exercise, it seems wrong!

Could I ask straight up for advice on how to get started on Crossfit from home? I've read lots of the websites but I'm a bit overwhelmed with information at this stage.

I've been dabbling for the past 9 months or so with weights (squats, deadlifts, presses, etc) but it's been somewhat here and there since Christmas so I've gone back on a lot of progress I'd made.
I have a barbell, about 70kgs of weight plates, a skipping rope, a bike, lots of fields around, a small local football gym 2 minutes down the road that I could join, a canal outside my front door and lots of good intentions!
The gym down the road mainly has machines but also a small free weights area with an Olympic barbell (no squat rack), a Smith machine (could be good for pull-ups if you racked it at the highest point) and a couple of rowing machines, treadmills, crosstrainers and bikes.

If anyone could point me in the right direction of a beginner's workout, I'd be so grateful.

Lisa
Is the issue regarding the use of kit or the level for starting at?
If it is the former then we could make a few suggestions - are you planning to follow the WOD on the main site?
If it is the later then have you tried the scaling reco'd at brandx? (http://forum.brandxmartialarts.com/viewforum.php?f=16&sid=74059d7b82f8aa7e7fa9cdcec3157228).

I started with a skipping rope and a set of dumbells and a place to do pull ups (mine was a towel hanging from a ladder).

It's a bit of both Chris. I've looked at the WOD on the main Crossfit site before but I'm a bit befuddled by the shorthand. I'm sure it seems straightforward to anyone used to it but it's somewhat impenetrable for me at the moment.

For example, today's one, is it simply to just run 800m(or 200m for beginners) x 4 times and record the times?

So are you planning to follow the WODs Lisa?

If so, if you need any help with any elements of what is posted up, be it "translating" it, working out how you can do it with your current set-up etc, just post here!

Think I will Chet, not sure how wise that is at my current level of fitness but I suppose I can follow the 'puppy' level, or even the 'buttercup' level, god forbid!
And I'm quite sure I'll be mithering all here for help once I've coughed my first lung up after my initial attempt, cheers.
