Here at FK.UK it feels like functional fitness is on the brink of an explosion in the UK, as people begin to uncover the truth for themselves.
Helping folk along the way is Men’s Fitness. Most of you will be familiar with the magazine, but the online media is also worth a look, especially for entertaining and informative videos such as this one!
Those that have read the magazine over the last year or so will have noticed more and more features of interest to the functionally fit reader – from pieces on barefoot running, through paleo eating, to impressive features on the olympic lifts. It is almost like the Features Editor is a functional fitness fan himself….
Well, truth be told…he is! Men’s Fitness Features Editor Joel Snape believes in putting his money where his mouth is. He is entering the CrossFit Reading Strength and Power Meet (in Association with FK.UK) – and bringing with him a couple of the Men’s Fitness crew to grab photos and take some film for the website.
Here’s a few words from him about strength and functional fitness:
‘Here on Men’s Fitness, we’re big believers in the idea that getting stronger is good for everybody, whether you want to stay healthy, compete in virtually any sport, or just avoid paying removal men. Strongman events offer some of the most truly functional fitness around, and it’s great to see one that offers everyone a chance to get involved. Also, I’m kind of looking forward to seeing if I can pull a truck/boat/plane.’
Joel’s experiences at the event will be detailed in an ‘Out There’ feature in Men’s Fitness magazine, so keep your eyes peeled!
You many have spotted that Joel entered the CrossFit Games UK and Ireland Sectional, a couple of months back, and fared very respectably. This will be featured in July edition of the magazine, so well worth keeping your eyes out for the magazine over the next few months.
Exciting times ahead for UK functional fitness, Men’s Fitness…and your fitness!
