A challenge that was going on at the gym

500 row
10 burpees
4 rounds for time

12.25

A shocking time, but still 7th on the gym leaderboard LOL

A nice finish to the day :)

Not that I'm in any way competitive but what is the time to beat for that little beasty?

Cheers, kempie

Hehe...

Funny thing is, Mark asked about that wee gem this morning...he's doing it tonight ;)

1st place on the leaderboard was 9 mins 35 seconds, as far as I recall.

Burpees don't have to be GS, in fact, the gym didn't even require a press in them

Should have gone sub 8 but I kept going into a press-up on the burpee then stopping myself, wasted a lot of seconds until I got my head back around the standard burpee.... really dumb

So a standard burpee is???

Enquiring and mildly competitive minds want to know ;)

Nice one bud - crushed the gym record as it stands B)

I know what you mean about the standard burpee - I've been mixing up the types of burpee quite a lot recently, so have gotten used to it.

But when I did my first metcon including burpees without press, I kept on going into a bl**dy press by mistake!

I did everything other than the press-up in the burpee.... I did do the over head clap!!!

Davie with your rowing you should smash it, sub 8 I reckon, but it is another little sneaky Ninja met-con

When doing these rowing workouts, swopping between the rower and something else, do you guys put your feet back in the straps?

I had this problem yesterday evening and eventually opted for the straps, as I thought that the extra power I could get from secure feet would compensate for the time taken to strap in. Dunno whether that is the best strategy though...

Personally, I always shove my feet back in, pretty much for the reason you mentioned

Yep, definitely strap in. The trick is to get them set so they hold you secure but you can kick in and out without using your hands. The key with this is realising that you can't just pull your feet out as the heel gets stuck in the heel cup. Instead, kick up, release the heel then pull it out. Foot goes in the same way. With a little practice this is doable with pretty snug straps.

I have played with rowing strapless and you save a little on time but lose a little on stroke power, in the end I decided straps were the way to go. For a less experienced rower, I don't think it would even be close - straps all the way

Hope that helps.

Cheers, kempie

I 100% agree with Kempie..... straps all the way. Just have them a little less tighter than you normally would and the above technique works a treat, in & out.

If you have a couple of spare bodies you can get them to hold the straps over your feet, a la relay rowing!

Maybe you have better friends than me but I don't think mine would get that close when I'm doing one of these combo workouts. They would have to be reaching over "the bucket" :P

Told the gym guys about your time Mark... they were well impressed! My PT did it in I think 9:18 yesterday, and he's the fastest so far at our gym.

He said it nearly killed him though. He hates rowing only slightly less than I do!
