Barefoot convert

After meaning to for ages, this morning I put on my Sealskinz waterproof socks and headed to a local cricket pitch. The fact it was pouring with rain was the deciding factor - less people about and softer ground!
Really enjoyed it, and the toe pain I've had for ages didn't even show up. No idea of distance, I just wanted to try it. A couple of miles though, definitely.

Good to hear mate - do build it up in stages though

Yeah, guilty!
I used to run forefoot in my old Nikes (Basically not thudding down and rolling off the heel) and found my calves ached as they got used to it, but it was like I'd never stopped running today
Have ordered a pair of these as I'd like to run on my previous routes which are covered in stones. A pine cone was bad enough in socks...

I am a recent convert to bud. Stick with it. Best thing running wise I have ever done.

i'm a convert too, i use vibrams when it's too cold (or maybe i'm not man enough
), though i prefer to be completely barefoot.
Try and relax your feet when you run, it you hit a stone it will be a lot less painful if your foot is soft and relaxed. Also you should be constantly looking at where you are going.
My favourite running surface is smooth stone or road, I find wet grass begins to hurt after a bit.
Start introducing some rougher surfaces to begin conditioning your feet up, you can also scratch your feet chicken style in fine gravel too.

it can also help to minimise the amount of noise you make as you run, this means you will be hitting the ground much more softly.
One of the things I like is that it's so stealthy, people don't usually hear you, or they think it's a dog padding along
i should probably plug that i'm doing the manchester 10k this year barefoot with Finn, we're hoping to raise some money for unicef too.

need to get some training updates on there, we've been a little lax from the cold weather :S
despite what people might tell you running outside barefoot when it's frosty is painful
tbh my main reason for running it is because i get blisters if i wear shoes!
