Hi all

Came across an article by dan john who was using saw horses to do front squats.

I quite like that idea,powerracks/squat stands are way out of my league price wise but it would be great to be bk squatting again,my knees are better when i squat.

Any thoughts of using them for back squats?

Any diy er's know a good place to get them?
Cheers

You could always get 4, two large, two small. I was using a pair set to about 5 foot for quite a while for lifting squats and OHPs off of.

Also, if you have a local scaffolding merchant you may want to check their prices. The one I know of locally has lower prices than you find on ebay, and you should be able to save on shipping if you have suitable transport to pick them up.

Sorry, yep, should have specified the larger ones. The ones I have come in three sizes, the mediums are perfect for spotter stands, the large work well for squat stands provided you aren't more than about 6 feet tall.

Seems to be a dearth of suppliers on eBay right now though. Keep checking the site, they pop up frequently.

Stephen - are your large trestles adjustable or fixed size? Found these a few miles down the road from me, and they seem to tall enough for me to use to squat when adjusted. Just emailed them to find out if the price is for a single or pair, plus what the weight limit is:

Hi

Think i was searching sawhorses on ebay, the ones i saw where fixed at 81cm height.

The trestles u put a link 2 look really good but i think £60 a pair would be a stretch for me.

I just found out there is a scaffold place near buy might check their prices.

Cheers

Size 3 is the biggest and expands to about 5 foot 8 (1.7m). Size 2 generally goes to about 4 feet high. I got mine from this seller - http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/toptower123/ - fairly cheap for stuff.

So i would really need 4 of them,2 of the bigger and two of the smaller.

To start off would num 1's be o.k,rest the bar on that get under it and squat? Then save up for the bigger ones, bar can rest on that with the smaller ones acting as safety.

I will need to see how they compare to scaffolding.

Buster,

Don't know if you have already looked at this or something similar but Scaffolding Power Rack gives a good idea of what you can make with scaffolding. I built one and it ended up costing about £100 with all new, cut to size scaffolding (it's the couplers that really add up). It was at the place that I bought the scaffolding that I noticed that their trestles were quite a bit cheaper than the ones I had seen on ebay.

As an aside, if you do go with the scaffolding route put the spotter bars on the inside of the verticals, not the outside like the diagram. On the outside they can extend far enough to interfere with the plates on the bar. The same applies to the front to back supports at the top, if you plan to do ohps in the rack.

Think i'm just going to get the trestles,be better than a solid structure in the garden that the missus will moan about!

Really like the idea of 2 high and 2 low trestles, they seem to be able 2 handle the weight and i can store them out of the way when not in use.

I was thinking of using them to do dips as a sub for bench press thoughts?

I use them for dips (well, my guys do, I use the rings) and they are fine. Work a treat as L-sit stands too.

Just gets better and better! Iv got rings but using the trestles would be easier than setting them up.

Starting saving for them just now.

Hi

Been meaning to post but been busy.

Saw horses are awesome(thanks Franz for link!),it is a bitch starting from the bottom but you get used to it.

On another note i tweaked my back picking up my wee one,i want to get back to training and i think a belt might be a good idea.

Been looking around but not many sellers in U.K,pullums is o.k but for a decent 1 they want more money than i have?

Any ideas of good sellers?

Cheers.

Try ebay. I know people who have managed to get the Pullums style belts cheaper that way.

Hi

Been using saw horses for my SS prog going ok, i got a pair of cheap ones for 24 pounds from focus think they are stanley brand , basically cheap plastic ones non adjustable.

if its any use i saw screwfix do unbranded ones which hold 250kg are £22 each ie £44 a pair and are adjustable. they also look exactly like the draper brand adjustable ones.. i kinda wish i had got them now as its getting hard to start the squats from bottom up on my non adjustable cheap ones
