FK.UK and the British Weightlifting Association (BWLA) have collaborated to create the first ever ‘virtual’ BWLA club, FK.Weightlifting (FK.WL).
This allows us to offer BWLA membership to the whole of the functional fitness community rather than just those people who train at an affiliated club location. This is an unprecedented arrangement and indicates BWLA’s increasing awareness of the ever expanding functional community and the opportunities available to both parties for the growth of the sport of weightlifting.
This arrangement provides numerous advantages to both camps. For those in the functional fitness world it provides access to experienced weightlifting coaches and membership of a nationally recognised body. This membership can only further legitimise the standing of the functional fitness coach and practitioner in the broader fitness world. FK.WL would also be ranked nationally so it gives our members the ability to gauge their progress in weightlifting compared to other athletes.
For BWLA this partnership offers a measurable increase in membership, increased participation in competitions and serves as a register of interested parties from the functional fitness arena. BWLA is currently under tremendous pressure from Sport England to increase its membership in the run up to London 2012 and a large influx of members from the functional fitness community would allow it to demonstrate that the sport is indeed growing in the UK. Meeting the Sport England goals will grant access to more funding for BWLA which will, in turn, benefit the functional fitness community as members of the association.
In this way, becoming a member of FK.UK will have a direct influence on the future of the sport of weightlifting in the UK.

Joined up today. Need all the help I can get with these damn lifts. I feel like I have gone from last year in Junior School (2 x British Natural Bodybuilding Champion) to a new High School (Novice Olympic Weightlifter). Enjoying the journey though.
