There seems to be a fair few of us gunning for a muscle-up this year, so thought I would throw this in...

The challenge is simple - A race to 1 muscle-up.

The muscle-up must be on video and posted here for it to count.

Who's in?

What do I win? :P

EDIT: Actually, Davie's got one on Youtube that's earlier than mine, and with far better form.

Very impressive. :D

Would you say it's easier on a fixed object? I noticed you use a lot of momentum from your legs to aid the transition. I don't think that would be as effective on rings 'cos the swing would just transfer to the rings.

I want to have a go on a fixed object, though. I reckon I could get one using your technique.

I suspect that it is easier on a fixed object, yes. As you say, there's a lot of momentum from the legs there. In fact, I look like I'm having some kind of fit there! The 2 things that aid my transition are the leg swing, and a big old shoulder shrug (a tip I picked up on Ross' forum which led to me nailing my first one - not sure how visible it is on the video).
My technique's got a lot less "swingy" since that vid was shot, so looks better and is more efficient. Haven't tried it out on my rings lately, since I'm not sure I have anywhere to hang them that is high enough for a M-U.
BTW Chet (and any others), if you want to have a go on a fixed object, get yourself over to one of my WT SUnday sessions and crack on mate. :)

There's a nice kip to the ring MU. That's something I'll have to try. I'm trying to do them without any kip or momentum.

I'm up for it, but with slight 2 problems:
i. dunno how to get vids from my phone onto the web
ii. ring-hanging problem I've already mentioned
but I'll give it a go somehow - just getting my excuses in early!

Ahh, but you have an advantage in already being able to do a bar MU, so all's fair :P

Chet got his first MU..... Well done Buddy :D

Chet MU
"The idiots are self regarding consumer slaves oblivious to the paradox of their uniform individuality. They sculpt their hair to casual perfection, they wear their waistbands below their balls. They babble into hand-held twit machines about that cool e-mail of the woman being bummed by a wolf. Their cool friend made it. He's an idiot too. Welcome to the age of stupidity, hail the rise of the idiots!"

Charlie Brooker & Chris Morris.

"Don't get hung up on the stopwatch or times, or even weight lifted, think about technique, technique, technique and listening to your body. You will not perform better every session and that is set in stone. Test your self every month keep a written journal not just a forum, a place where you can keep personal notes that you can read to motivate yourself. Don't compare yourself to others when you are working out and likewise do not think that you are already fit as fcuk!!! As someone will always be in front and behind you, ultimate confidence in your abilities yes, but arrogance no, there is a fine line.
But most of all do the things you hate above the things you like or are good at, this will make you a better athlete. Save the things you like for recreational sessions. But ultimately enjoy it, even when you hate it! And finally remember the mind will always give in before the body!"

Here endeth the lesson.
