Main thing I need to sort out this year is a new job by 31 May. In terms of training the main goals are:

Row a sub 7.00 min 2000metres at British Indoor Rowing Championship in October 2010

Improve my upper body strength. Targets are:
• B/W bench press (currently at about 75%)
• 80% B/W Push Press (currently at about 50%)

Lower Body strength targets
• 150% B/W Front Squat (currently at about 120%)

I reckon if I can sort out these strength targets then everything else should be about where I want them.

Improve lifting technique – do Crossfit I-course once rugby season finishes also look for a Dan John course in the UK later in the year (I've seen various things on the course he's just done in Dublin and he looks the business).

Improve my flexibility in my hips and quads. This is a medium term goal as I’m pretty tight in these areas.

Attend one yoga class a week.

Do half ironman triathlon in <5.30, everything else is secondary.

2009 goals were screwed with shoulder/achilles injuries. We'll not go there (bitterness is obvious!!)

In 2010 - All very achievable stuff, but lots depends on the shoulder...
Lifting stuff
- Qualify for British P/L champs (GBPF unequipped). I'm a master this year (i.e. 490kg @ -90kg), should make it a bit easier ;) . Previous lifts make this very do-able. Still unable to bench though...
- Would love to try an Oly lifting comp (masters II for Oly lifting!). Unable to snatch right though - yup, that shoulder. -
- Do the next FK:UK competition. Last one looked like great fun!
Endurance stuff
- Sub 45 mins 10k run (54:00 pb)
- Olympic distance triathlon - been on my list for about 5 years now. Learned to swim (properly) a couple of years back, but unable to right now (damn shoulder again!! )
Body fat % of a human
- Be as paleo as possible. I've eaten enough processed junk over the last few years to last me forever!
- Body Weight less than 90kg (see PL goal above :D ) - Was 100kg+ at Xmas, current 98kg

Oh yeah - another thing...
I lost my pull-up ability (such as it was) with all that shoulder nonsense.
I want it back! And with bells on.

Gym
- 100kg bench.
- 160kg deadlift.
- get myself a road bike and then use it regularly.
- train hard enough to get the aesthetic results I want without going on a ridiculous diet.

Non-gym
- Get most of the way to my professional Royal accreditation.
- Spend more time outdoors.

Fairly simple, but having achieved a reasonable amount last year I find myself at a loss as to what to aim for this year. And one of my mottos is "the key to success is aiming low!"
No pain, no biscuits.

My goal was to get into the Virtruvian race. I didn't.

So goals for 2010 even though we are a quarter of the way through:

Don't look at other websites
ignore keyboard warriors
Listen to myself when it comes to training
To not have a training plan or any type of programming
To make my training up daily
Play more sport
Don't care about times or weight (it will be whatever it will be on the day)
I have a 120kg bench press / 192.5kg Deadlift / 127.5kg squat / sub 20min 5k / 90kg jerk press. accept that from a GPP view point thats enough
Don't worry if I miss a days training
Take extra rest days
Eat what I want when I want

Other things that cannot be mentioned
"The idiots are self regarding consumer slaves oblivious to the paradox of their uniform individuality. They sculpt their hair to casual perfection, they wear their waistbands below their balls. They babble into hand-held twit machines about that cool e-mail of the woman being bummed by a wolf. Their cool friend made it. He's an idiot too. Welcome to the age of stupidity, hail the rise of the idiots!"

Charlie Brooker & Chris Morris.

"Don't get hung up on the stopwatch or times, or even weight lifted, think about technique, technique, technique and listening to your body. You will not perform better every session and that is set in stone. Test your self every month keep a written journal not just a forum, a place where you can keep personal notes that you can read to motivate yourself. Don't compare yourself to others when you are working out and likewise do not think that you are already fit as fcuk!!! As someone will always be in front and behind you, ultimate confidence in your abilities yes, but arrogance no, there is a fine line.
But most of all do the things you hate above the things you like or are good at, this will make you a better athlete. Save the things you like for recreational sessions. But ultimately enjoy it, even when you hate it! And finally remember the mind will always give in before the body!"

Here endeth the lesson.

Ding-a-ling-a-ding-dong

I nearly let this slip by...

I have pull-ups!
Yes, pull-ups plural, more than 1!! (2, actually). :D

Let's hope they're still there tomorrow... ;)

Working as an accountant for a property management company. It's a major relief as my current job finishes on 31 May and the job market isn't exactly in full swing in the midlands.

Nice and local too so may be investing in a bike.
