So...

This is a wee challenge that is going on between Kempie and I ATM...

Having both completed and now far exceeded Part I of the 'quest' for bounce, 50 consecutive single-unders, we are now at Part II:

First to 10 consecutive double unders

For the record, Kempie beat me on Part I by about a day

Its now time to re-address the balance ;)

Anyone else want to play?

Yeah, I'm for this. I'll tape it if possible. I need to work on double unders anyway. I can do 100-120 single unders without a break now. It's only really my legs that tire.

you'll have to count me out I'm afraid. Cos of my boxing background I used to do hours of skipping. Can do about 30 or so.

I had a bash today and was getting frustrated at my stupid feet. They seem to be AIMING for the rope.

OK. I've given up on just hoping I can magically do double unders because I command it. I've taken to single unders but taken very slow with a tuck jump to hang in the air for as long as possible.

I'll have a go at this now that I've discovered I can actually skip a bit.

Congrats on your DUs yesterday...they were good ones too.

For the record, Nicky got 2 DUs with single-unders in between, in about 10 mins B)

I think you will nail this challenge pretty quickly with a bit of practise :)

Congrats Nicky - I had my first try today and feel like I have never jumped rope at all. But what the hey it doesn't gimp my back so will probably be practising quite a bit in the near future.

On that note another parallel challenge occurred to me. How about consecutive uses of f  ck, b  h, c  k-sucker, pr  k, arse, mother-f  er and s :o t in 10 mins?

Edited by hand after I noticed there was no swear filter

Cheers, kempie

Lol.

I know what you mean mate - I feel like I've regressed too, even on the single-unders.

Trying to get faster and bring the bounces down to about an inch or so, and its messing me up TBH...

I need to work on getting the wrists to do all the work with the rope too - too much excess arm movement ATM.

RAAAAAA.

As far as that consecutive challenge goes - that's already well on the way for me ;)

I have single-unders down pretty well. I can do 100-150 turns without stopping at a fairly high cadence.

Double unders... cause me to swear like a drunk Navvy. My feet seem to be aiming for the rope on the second turn. It's almost magnetic. They literally stomp the f**king rope. I'm currently just doing slow turns and knee tuck jumps to get better at hanging in the air.

I'll have a go at some skipping today. I'm off to the gym as soon as I feel like my lunch has gone down. Unfortunately, I succumbed to a Boditronics Bodifit protein bar (peanut butter crunch or whatever the flavour's called) which arrived today ... mmm! This is NOT the purpose of the bars! Must control myself and NOT eat them as pudding! Extra skipping to make up for it.

Can't offer you 2 any advice on the skipping really, not having mastered it myself, except to say that I wouldn't really worry about how high off the ground your feet are atm Chet - I'd have thought that this would improve naturally as skipping becomes more automatic for you.

Maybe I'll come back from the gym having sussed DUs completely and be able to tell you exactly how to do them... or maybe not!

I managed to do the 'running on the spot' style of skipping pretty well today. I'm trying to move out of my comfort zone, really.

Well done; I can't get more than about 10 on that style. Though I'm not quite sure whether to try and lift my knees up in front of me, or kick my heels out behind or what.

Had about a 15 min skipping sesh - 100 single unders to start (well actually 84 + 16), then some goes at the running style and the DUs.

Managed 3 DUs in a row... once. Managed 2 a few times, 1 a few times, and 0 quite a lot of times!

It was kind of going ok for a while, then I lost the plot and couldn't do any at all, so I decided to quit and just did 50 single unders to finish off.

Decided my rope's too short though. I'm holding it by the very ends, and a few times it hit my hair on the way up. I think 8 ft 6" would be my ideal length of rope. I'll just have to buy a 9 ft one - I got on ok with Chet's the other day.

Matt - is yours 9 ft?? If so, isn't it a bit short for you? I mean, it's probably about right for Chet, and if I can skip with it, I'd have thought you'd need a longer one.

Yeah, mine's a 9ft. I could probably do with one a bit longer to be fair.

Knees up seems to be working for me ATM.

Seems to work for Ross too:

are you not allowed singled in between to keep the momentum going? or is the point that you shouldn't?

That's just sickening. In fact, I don't think he's actually using a rope. I think he's just holding empty handles to make it look like he's got a rope, and he's added the sound effects in later.

I'm practising DUs with singles in between atm, but I guess at some point I'll have to bite the bullet and attempt to string some together without.
