I'm having real trouble nailing the false grip on my rings. Admittedly, I've only been using them for a few days, but I find that I am unable to support my weight properly. My hands always seem to slide round to a normal grip.

Is this just a technique problem, or am I just too fat and too weak? :o

I've scoured the 'web for help, but it seems to indicate that it should be 'easy'.

The only time I had a go, I had exactly the same problem. Not that that helps you in the slightest, but at least you're not the only one!

Practice, practice, practice

Yeah. I think that's the case, Davie. I've been trying some body rows with a false grip which is helping me progress.

I was advised to "look for the pain" in the false grip-make sure the ring is sitting on the bone inside the wrist-if it hurts like hell and you get blisters you're getting there

Yup...and I was at the same Ring Training Masterclass ;) ;)

Funny you should post this Matt - I was having similar frustrations...'till yesterday :D - was 'greasing the groove' with ring pull-ups all night, lol.

Something clicked, and my grip felt a lot more 'stable'.

Wrists are red and a little sore ;)

That's the thing though - for me, I think I previously did not have enough of the ring on my wrist, if that makes sense. Easy mistake to make ;) Now it is properly resting there, which I have found in itself helps to form a wee "v"-shape between your wrist and your palm and keep the grip in place. Perhaps a similar issue with you?

Also, are you using chalk? Might give you a hand :)

Lots of chalk, lots of practice. Pull up as high as you can, dip as deep as you can.

It can be pretty painful and if I'm doing a wod with multiple mu I'll wear sweat bands to stop the blisters

Great video. It makes me more determined to get one in.

I might try the "shuffle to false grip" approach.

There is some really great stuff on the false grip and MU progressions in this month's CF journal. Well worth a look! I'll be testing out some of these when my wrists heal.

But you've got a pull up bar right? can you not hang the rings from there?
