Hi, every one. Nice to see a building crossfit community in the Uk. :) . Took me a while to find this site, loads of info on american sites but very little from the UK. My names Ed, and i've just graduated form swansea uni with a 2:1 in civil engineering, looking for a full time job is Hard!!. Looking into getting into crossfit to build up overall fitness. Nice to see bumper plates to be made in the Uk shortly at a great price, as well as some nice kettle bells. I still don't under stand the price difference on the weights in the uk, for example alot of the solid pro-stle dumbells are made in china and they are still cheaper in the US?? Guess in most be the volume that they purchace in.

Anyway, looking forward to be apart of this community, will prob have to buy my own equipment as there isn't any crossfit places near oxford, apart from reading etc..

Welcome to FK.UK Ed; glad you managed to find us. I'm pretty sure there are some members around your way that you might be able to hook up with to train. If not, there are always plenty of knowledgeable folk around here who should be able to answer most of your questions.

Yup, equipment pricing is a bone of contention over here. Doesn't help having the ridiculously high import duties if you try to bring anything in, but it does seem to cost an arm and a leg for even the most basic tools. A shortage of decent suppliers is a big pain too; fortunately through people here I have been able to find some good dealers with (almost) reasonable prices - just look through the equipment forum and there should be some recommended retailers you might want to check out.

Yeah, the walker bumper plates look great, but i'm looking for a good bar aswell, looked at the texas power bar from the states ites $300 got a shipping quote to the UK and the total cost of the bar and shipping excl vat and inmport tax was $674 :0

So will end up being $800 all in, way too much for me. All the american crossfitters recommend a decent bar that'll last, they say the $70 bars (aka the £100 UK bars) break very quickly and is a false economy to keep replacing them.

Maybe we can get a dealer on here to import a hundred of them and get us a crossfit deal. :)

I hear ya - I really want the B&R bar from Rogue, but it would be ridiculously expensive to ship it over. Having said that, I pretty much want everything over at Rogue :)

I found this site while researching oly bars, found this thread on google: http://www.funckey.c...?showtopic=1588 , then i looked at you equipment section where there are a few posts about plates etc.

The cheapest price i found previously is a 20kg york bumper for £64, and the wlker ones are a tenner cheaper ehich is nice.
And that roque fitness website is very nice, really nice layout and some great package deals:

This package includes:

- 160lb ROGUE Bumper Set by Hi-Temp - Includes pairs of 10, 25, and 45lb plates

- Men's Econ Bar

- Pair of Spring Collars

- Pair of ROGUE Rings

- Dynamax Medicine Ball (Choose size in the cart)

- 24kg/53lb/1.5 pood Ader Premier Kettlebell

For $845 wow!!, we want a deal like this in the UK, there is a massive gap in the market for well price quality crossfitting gear. If I can't find a job in a few months i may set up a Uk based Crossfit business and get some kit made in the uk or imported form china etc. lol

You can get rings a lot cheaper over here from Wolverson Fitness. I will be selling them from next Monday but in all honesty the deal that Jason has posted up in the forum is by far the best deal for the UK.

welcome mate, good luck with the eqpt hunting. I live in Germany in the Army and shipping any kit over here is a nightmare for P&P.

Thanks for the warm welcome, i've just spotted a 180kg ivanko weight set on ebay, but its 10 years old and the plates old quite tired. Anyone have any idea how much they would be worth? The chap wants about £500 for the set.
But i think it would be better getting a nice bar a few 20k bumpers and some cast metal 10's, 5's and 2.5's what you think??

£500 sounds too much, even £200 would be a stretch i'd say

i guess he's looking for the price to reflect the fact that they are comp plates but i would be surprised if there were many folk out there who would pay that premium or need them to be comp plates. i was thinking 300-350 given that they are ivanko etc.
