Does anyone have any experience with the Jordan Oly bars? http://www.jordanfre...ympic_Bars.html Seem like good quality at a very good price. I was wondering how they compare to say the York, powerhouse fitness etc.
Is it worth spending the bit extra for the Nickel coated bar?

Thanks

What are you going to use them for? If it's just general lifting for fitness then the chrome Jordan's are fine, especially when compared to the Yorks etc; if you are looking to get seriously into the Olympic lifts then it's better to go for the higher quality bars.

Not sure on the diameter of the chrome Jordan's; the Nickels are 32 mm which are power lifting bars not true Olympic bars and I do admit I find them a little large for my hands, especially when the grip is fatigued. I believe the chromes are the same but I can't say for sure.

I have a couple of the Chrome bars.

Not sure of the exact thickness but I would guess 32mm - certainly bigger than a WL bar anyway. I have big-a** hands so I can hook grip them OK, but would be trouble for people further removed from a chimpanzee than me...

Agree with Franz on the general lifting/weightlifting thing in general too.

In terms of the chrome vs. nickel - as far as I am aware the nickel have closed ends too. In retrospect I would pay a little more for the Nickel in that respect, it is a slightly nicer bar in general too.

i wonder if the reason I can't hook grip is from having short fingers and trying to use big fat cheap oly bars in my gym :)

Regarding width - not sure they are exactly 32mm. I had some of the black oxide bars from them which they said were 32mm but they are wider than the chrome bars i have from them by quite a lot.

I use some of the jordan chrome bars at my sessions and also when working out on my own out of the gym. they hold up well and as yet they haven't flaked or bent (700lb test). We use them for some oly lifting and power lifting at our session but our oly lifting isn't every day and a lot of my guys are new to oly lifting so wear and tear is minimal. you could do worse than jordans bars and yes i think the nickel bars are nicer on the eye.

Excuse the plug but i do sell these bars along with yorks ones on my site at a reduced rate. PM me if you have any questions.

Spoke to them, it looks like all their 7' bars are 32mm although the shorter bars are thinner. I am used to 28 nut sure how much of a difference it will make.
He also said the Nickel have bearings rather than just a bushing.

Their shorter bars are just as thick - or at least the nickel ones are ... we got a 6' nickel bar and not only is it just as thick but it weighs 18kg. A nice bar but no better for our ladies than the full size bars.

I still think they are a great bar for the money just handy to know the specs of what you are getting

Cheers, kempie
