FK.UK is holding a Summer Camp on the last weekend of August, in Newquay.

It will be a chilled out and fun affair - all FK.UK members and their families welcome.

As a general summary, we plan to have 'welcome drinks' in a beach side, family friendly pub for those arriving on Friday evening. Then couple of coached workshops on Saturday and Sunday mornings for those that are interested (£10 a head). Also a group beach BBQ on Sunday night. Otherwise, plenty of free time for folk to do what they want, in groups and/or with families.

Plenty of things to do locally:

· Surfing
· Coasteering
· Climbing/bouldering
· Kayaking
· Fishing
· Horse riding
· Golf
· Hiking the coast path
· Spa treatments
· Drinking!

And in case of wet weather:

· Most activities above still apply – only too much swell or wind is a problem
· Indoor climbing
· Indoor skate park

And some further options for kids:

· Newquay aquarium
· Waterworld
· Skateboarding
· Surfing/body boarding
· Lusty Glaze adventure activities
· Holywell Bay Fun Park

There is also a Celtic Strongman competition at St Just (near Land’s End) on the Saturday afternoon for those interested in going to check it out.

I'm in. Booked the camp site but had to get a whole week (Friday to Friday). I tried a few places and they all had the same policy in peak season. Bit of a pain, but what can you do?

Oh well, means I can do FK stuff, then spend the rest of the time with the family exploring Cornwall.

Edited to add: I called a few places and many were booked up for camping so if anyone is planning on coming down you should book something soonest.

Or not. Just checked the term dates and schools go back on the Wednesday this year so looks like we will be heading back up on the Tuesday morning. Oh well, such is life.

If anyone has trouble finding a place, let me know. I might be able to come up with more places to try as this is my neck of the woods. There are some nice campsites in the surrounding area.

Hey folks, it's all a bit quiet on the summer camp front. I did think there would be more interest than this. Are you still thinking about it, is the timing awkward, or does it just not appeal?

What can we say to persuade you?? :D

I've just been to another forum meet in Cornwall this weekend and we had a wonderful time. It is so good to meet up with like-minded people in a lovely place like this.

Summer camp is pretty flexible, we can do whatever people want to do. Come on folks, what does your ideal summer training camp look like?

Hey guys and girls,

None of you know me yet but this is right up my street and might bring the missus too as she's into the whole 'pain just for fun' thing....

Will ask her tonight although sounds like accomodation could be an issue?

Where's the best place to look?

Brining the missus is a great idea - we need more women in the group!

I am sure we will be able to sort something out accommodation-wise, so long as you don't leave it too late. Franz, where did you get booked in the end?

I'll see if I can find a good list!

This list seems quite comprehensive for campsites:

Campsites in or near Newquay

Last year we stayed at Trethiggey, which was fine.

FK.UK Summer Camp Workshops Confirmed....

In the original FK.UK announcement, I mentioned “a couple of coached workshops on Saturday and Sunday” morning.

FK.UK and Associates are excited to announce that the workshops have now been confirmed:

Saturday AM: 2hr Kettlebell Workshop
Sunday AM: 2hr Olympic Weightlifting Workshop

Each workshop will be led by 3 coaches – all BWLA Weightlifting for Other Sports Instructors and CF Level 1 certified. Places are limited to ensure excellent instructor to participant ratios and lots of attention!

The workshops will be held outside in the sunshine, unless the weather is unfavourable, in which case they will be indoors.

These workshops are a fantastic opportunity to work on your skills in these areas, in an enjoyable setting. No matter your current ability level, we will work with you to improve your technique & mechanics, and teach you drills & skills you can take away from the workshops to practise and improve further.

So – 3 coaches, limited places, and all at £10 per workshop!

Confirmation and payment required by 30th June 2009 at the latest.

Please send payment for the workshops via PayPal to chet@funckey.co.uk - or if you do not have access to Paypal, email the same address to confirm attendance and arrange alternative payment.

This is a unique opportunity at a steal of a price!

Hope to see you there.

Campsite bookings have been made for those who have already said they are camping. It's really busy this year at the camp sites - the credit crunch effect. So get your skates on if you want to come.

Here are some pictures of the area where we are staying!

Posted Image
Crantock beach! Soft golden sand! Heaped into evil dunes for those who want to brave some sprints. Also great for surfing.

Posted Image
Grassy paths over the headland, perfect for barefoot running!

Posted Image
Porth Joke beach - a hidden gem!

And if you really want to, you can check out Fistral beach!!

This looks really cool! Does anyone have a spare place in a car in exchange for petrol contribution?

Alright - @ folks that are coming to this:

We are thinking of sorting some instructed rock climbing for Saturday (did this last year and it was excellent)... and going to check out Cornwall's Strongest Man on the Sunday.

How does that sound? We need to get an idea of numbers, so drop a line on this thread indicating how many of you + folk that you are bringing are up for these.

Cheers.

I'll need to check I can get that Friday (Or maybe the afternoon?) off work.

Will I need to sort out a camping spot?
