I'm looking for a cheap good reliable one, have about 」150 to spend (+/- a bit if it's worth it), not much for a rower i know, i've been trying to find a good one, obviously C2's are out of the question :(

What's the difference between: magnetic? air? and the expensive-water rowers?

Anyone recommend any models/websites? Ebay/amazon/craigslist them sort of auction sites i can't get them from :( a site/store like powerhousefitness or argos is a good example of where i would like to buy these from?

I'm going to be using this for morning cardio with 60-75% MHR bpm, so one with a heart rate monitor, or pulse or whatever would be a thumbs up.. if not i'll have to buy one of those expensie heart rate monitor watches :(

Cheers lads!

Ben.
Things i Need:
140KG Olympic barbell kit, Power or Decent Squat Rack, Dip Station, Manilla Rope, Sledgehammer + Tyre, Rowing Machine, Sled, Weighted Vest, Captains Of Crush, Sandbag, Rings.

What do you need the heart rate monitor for (I'll admit to wanting one too just for making pretty graphs)? Listen to your body, not what some watch is telling you.

What's your intention of doing cardio every morning, body builder style fat loss?

I have my eye on this one at Amazon. Seems to be a fairly close analogue to the C-2 at a lower price.

Echo Greg; why the LSD rowing before meals (as stated on your log)? For fat loss I would think you would be better off with intervals and sprints on the rower (Tabata rows are a killer!)

If it helps I managed to pick up my C2 for 」220 (great condition, ModC, sans monitor bu you can pick them up later). So if you shop aroun you might be able to pick up a bargain. I know Davie has picked one up for 」100 from a gym doing a refurb. In my view there is no comparison.

I never see deals like this. Guess I am not looking hard enough!
Actually, the uni gym where I used to train is relocating later in the year - might put in an offer early. Cheers for the advice on that.

it is worth the effort
I think you will be dissapointed and end up paying twice otherwise. I used to have a magnetic kettler job a few years ago - was pretty much unusable for anything ended up sticking it in the tip.

Only before my first morning after i wake..
Yehh didn't mention, thursday, saturday and sunday i will do this LSD stuff in the mornings.. Friday, Sunday and Monday evenings i will do intervals and sprints etc :)

Back to the topic, ok so i'll have a look around for a cheap C2..

is there any difference between a magnetic and air rower?
I see magnetic rowers all over the place for 」60 yet air rowers at a minimum of ~」150 is it that much worse? what's the deal?

sorry to take this OT but why are you doing LSD to lose fat?

I am not just doing LSD, i will also be using intervals and sprints. LSD has always worked well for me in terms of fat loss.
I also want more aerobic/muscular endurance, so i don't get gassed walking up stairs etc

have you had a look at some of the work outs on crossfit endurance as an alternative to LSD?
ps - i would view ME to be the oposite of LSD

thanks for the help Chris, but at the moment i'm looking for help with buying a decent rowing machine, once i get it i'll then look more into what methods ill use etc :)

So, any difference between magnetic, air and water rowers?

As i said, i can see several magnetic half decent rowers for 」70, yet the cheapest air rowers are ~」150? are they worth the extra money, because i don't have it to spare?

no worries,
from my experience magnetic seem to have little resemblance to a rowing motion and from what i have seen are pretty cheeply put together (not just the main mechanism but also the footplates/straps and handles. best thing is to probably see if you can try out a few and see what works for you.

So my rower was delivered today:

http://www.yorkfitne...furbished).html

Got it for 」50, has obviously gone up in price 」20 since i ordered it! :S

Built it up in 15 minutes fine, no problems
Although the computer turned on, it didn't seem to track any movement, or recognise when i was rowing, when it should be counting distance/cals/stroke rate etc, so i'm guessing thats broken.

But, oh my god! it feels awful! OK i wasn't expecting anything like the C2 in my leisure centre, but it feels terrible, i gave up on it and will check it in the morning, hopefully if the computer is broken then i can send it back, and save up for a low price air rower.

Effort!! was looking forward to this :(
