OK, we are thinking this would be a perfect thing to do as an FK.UK event to raise awareness of both this forum and the functional fitness scene in the UK and to raise a load of cash for a worthwhile charity. I was thinking of sorting out a mutual date and trying to arrange a few venues across the UK where people can meet up and do the burpees.

If we have it as a group event we are more likely to get the press (local and maybe national) to cover it so we might be able to raise more money for the charity.

To make it a marathon, we'd ideally need 26 participants doing a mile each split amongst the locations. A friend of mine is an events manager for a charity in town so I will hit him up for contacts and ideas. You may also be getting PM's from me in the next week or so asking about potential locations etc. In the meantime, if you have any constructive comments or offers to help organise this, PM me and I will get back to you.

Thanks Franz29, I can probably get a few crossfittirs here, including myself, to participate for HFH charity and maybe get video footage proof. Or even we could come across to an area staging the event. But please no more than 1 mile....we definately need 26 people. It took one fit bloke 1 hr 19 mins to do it.....me and my big mouth

Figured you could get some guys together over there. It would probably be even better for you all to do your share at SHAPE and (maybe) have the military media machine on our side ;)

I am thinking it would be good to host an event in the CF Reading area, The Box Derby to cover the FK Associates. Other suggestions are welcomed.

I'm up for helping to organise this Franz, time allowing. I had also thought about maybe finding two main bases 26 miles apart and doing it like that - my thinking was if we can find a base 26 miles from horse gaurds parade then sort a route and do it like that. Could be good for getting the PR. If we get enough interest we could even make it a team race!

How many burpees in a mile (roughly)? How many did the guy in the video do (I don't have access to the video)?

about 2 metres per burpees, plus there was some slight walking going on... Still impressive and painful!

For some reason before seeing the video I didn't think it would be that bad, maybe 20-30 minutes of pain, but 800 burpees is badass!

*backs slowly away from this challenge, i'm too young to die!

He took around 1 hour 19 minutes, at the end of each burpee he took a big jump forward, roughly around 3/4 feet. I reckon a person would be able to do one burpee every 6 feet (give or take).

According to the internet: 400 metre = 1,312 feet

1,312 feet / 6 feet = 219. Therefore approx 219 burpees every lap of a track.

4 laps = 1 mile = 219 x 4 = 875 Burpees

not that many  THis guy finished in 1 hr 20 (approx) therefore he did 1 burpee every (875 / 80 = 10.9 approx 11 per minute), works out as about 1 every 6 seconds (if my maths is right)

sounds like good training to me!!!!! Maybe we could have our own internal competition for who gets the fastest mile

Winner gets an ice pack for their knees.....

We could try to get 52 people and do a half mile each....

Or, we could just think about the service men and women who were injured in the line of duty that we would be doing this for. Pretty sure I could stand an hour and a half (or more) of suck if I keep in mind that some of these guys have to endure the pain for a lifetime.
