Hi Chet and Everyone

Another member of Andy’s CrossFit Reading crew to the ranks here.
Thought it was about time to sign up (rather then just lurk  ) to join and support the broader UK community here.

For the record:

Did the bodybuilding stuff (competed in 1 show at the age of 18 – after which decided I never wanted to be greased up in tight speedos in front of other men again)
Martial arts in the twenties (kali/arnis/escrima, thai, bjj).
Competed in Escrima stick fighting to national level for a few years
Got fat in the late 20’s (no excuse, just lazy)
Seeking fitness again since the early 30’s

Now, in process of completing course to be a qualified PT (not giving up the day job though)
Train in garage gym and at Andy’s CFReading - coming up to a year or so now.

Motivation…used to be because it keeps me away from the on-line poker tables...

Cheers

Thong (it's pronounced TONG btw)

Hi Thong, welcome.
Where did you train in Escrima? I'd love to get in to something like that to compliment my Krav Maga.

Thanks everyone.

Stephen, I used to do and help teach Rapid Arnis in Ilford under Pat O'Malley one of the co-founders of the system.
Pat’s knowledge in the Philippino Martial Arts is highly respected (lives in Devon now).

The stick aspect is great fun and one thing it really developed was speed and reaction time. Numerous drills as well as full contact stick fighting (see Dog Brothers and Black Eagle Society) will really develop this aspect.

There is a London club partly run by my friend Louis Beale at School of Oriental and African Studies if you are interested. I’ve not trained there but used to train with Louis for a few years and he is a very talented Arnis fighter/martial artist (imo)...otherwise, if we meet up again at some point I could show you some stuff.
