Do-Win Weightlifting Shoes

The book is great and i'm only part way through.
Although i dont do a great deal of olympic style lifting I really do enjoy it and love it when these movements come up in the WOD and i want to really learn how to do them properly and safely with good technique (never even heard of the hook grip before reading this book...amateur i know!!!)
The book recommended the use of weightlifting shoes, so i went on line and had a look. The cheapest pair i could find (that also had a good write up) were a pair of Do-Wins (last years model) that an olympic team wore.
These will set me back around 65 pound (from Supplement Warehouse)
Has anyone used Do-Wins before? Or are these too cheap to be any use to me? I usually take a size 8.5 in normal trainers, do i need to go a bit larger for weightlifting shoes. Our gym here does have a wooden lifting platform, so i might as well utilise it.
Any comments useful. Thanks.

By the way, does anybody know if the adidas outlet by CF manchester sells weightlifting shoes?
*jealous that you have a proper lifting platform

Greg, cheers for reply mate. I went back to UK for the day on saturday and looked around loads of sports shops for weightlifting shoes. I couldnt find any store that held them. Looks like an internet purchase if you are getting some. Or you might have to go to a dedicated weightlifting gym / store to find some.
good luck

Aye, the Do-Wins are a good shoe IMO, more than suitable for the job. I have pair, so does Franz, so does Will Walshe, to name a few.
I would say you need a WL shoe to be a snug fit too - will add some info about how the Do-Win sizes in particular come up later...
Greg - Nope, the Adidas Outlet next to CFM doesn't sell them, and neither do most sports shops as Marcus says. Your best bet is online, eBay, etc.

Thanks chet, sorry for being a dumb ass, but what does WL mean?

Not so flashy as the Nikes or the Adidas shoes but functional and suited for my needs. I would recommend them to anyone starting out in weightliftgin or just looking for a pair to use on a more casual "CrossFit" type basis.

Franz29, this are exactly the same as i was looking at. I think i will purchase today (the site also sends to BFPO addresses (military) so P&P is not so bad)
A quick question though, if a WOD comes up that say has both an olympic movement and other non olympic movements in it (i.e. cleans and burpees), can you keep these shoes on for the whole WOD or would you have to chop and change footwear dependant on the exercises within the WOD?
thanks

Personally I would suggest you go slightly smaller than the size you are.
I have 9.5-10 size feet, and have got 43s (9s) in the Do-Wins.

I'd probably wear regular trainers for this, usually the weightlifting element isn't too heavy so you can get away without wearing shoes.

I would do both movements in the same shoes (usually my VFF's or my Free 7.0's). It's all about the functional movement IMHO; I doubt I will have specialised shoes in an unexpected situation so I need to know I can do stuff whatever I am wearing. Similarly, I will do some metcons with my boots on or lift barefoot, just so I get the feel for the exercise "as-is". Just another aspect of the "constantly varied" stuff we hear about all the time.
Of course if the WOD requires you to do only O-lifting then the shoes are the way to go (and squats but NOT deadlifts!).

Cheers Franz29, i was wondering about the Deadlift. So i gather the exercises that the shoes are for are:
Squats: overhead, front, back
clean: power, hang, hang-power
snatch: power, hang, hang-power
jerk: split, push jerk
but NOT Deadlifts
is this okay, dont think i missed anything?

I found it messed up my form something rotten. I was too far over the bar and lost a lot of power in my drive. I suspect that once I got used to it I would do OK but it just didn't seem worth my time when I was doing fine in vibrums. I know Rip recommends them, but I thought that is more for the solid heel and non-squashiness when compared to sneakers - barefoot of VFF'd I don't have that issue. I will re-read through SS and maybe give them another go for deads.
It could be that the Do-Wins heel is higher than that on the Adidas shoes so the issue is more pronounced for me. Hmm, another reason for a second pair of O-shoes

Got a 8.5, usually take a 9 in trainer. They fit nice and snuggly.
Used them for two workouts already,
1st was the back squat WOD (3-3-3-3-3) noticed a difference on the depth of the squat, managed to get deeper. Also noticed i managed to push slightly harder through the heels and therefore managed more weight than previous (around 40 lbs)
Also wore it for the Hang squat clean WOD, kept loosing my balance at first (more than usual !!!), probably due to not being used to a higher heel. But after the first round it sort of came together.
Overall, not bad, comfy and secure. Will keep using them for all oly movements. squat rack has no solid platform (we have a wooden lifting platform next to the squat rack for DL's) but it is still that soft rubber crap under the squat rack, so maybe if it were a solid platform i might have noticed a bigger difference in the squat drive portion.
Negative side, never told my missus i was getting them

i came across these Deadlift boots at sugar rays and was wondering if anyone on here has used them before, ideally i want a shoe that i can do my weightlifting in but can transfer over to other moves in the gym
the adidas ironworks are just within my budget but these are a good 20-30 quid cheaper than most places.
