snatch and OHS grip

Have been looking at my grip recently for the above and wondering if I have it right. I tend to use a hook grip for both but tend to have my OHS grip inside the width of my snatch grip by about a hand width (5-6"). My biggest area of weakness in the OHS tends to be wrist pain as it bends at an akward angle (or I could just be a woose!). Should my grip for the OHS be wider as in my snatch? Any other pointers?

I defo get the hook grip - much more stable. It's just the pain in the wrist that causes me trouble - maybe I just need a more "active" wrist.

i still don't get the whole hook grip thing, either my fingers are too short or the bars are too thick. I feel like I have less grip, and it's really awkard
Depends on the bar. I can hook comfortably on an official Olympic bar; it has a shaft diameter of 28mm so my hand fits OK. On a powerlifting bar I can't get a secure grip and it hurts like hell because I have all the weight on just 2 fingers; they have a shaft diameter of 31-32mm. Unfortunately most gyms that even have Olympic plates have the power variety of bar because they are cheaper and are more useful for heavy squats/deadlifts etc.
My regular gym has one 28mm bar so I always make sure to use that.

My random thoughts:
- OHS grip should be as wide as the Snatch. An OHS is basically a snatch practice exercise after all.
- Hook grip is mandatory when trying to snatch or clean heavy weights, otherwise you loose some force applied to the bar as your fingers will flex on the pull. Feels aweful and painful for about 2 weeks, but you get used to it and then it's lovely, really secure.
- Gyms with only thick power lifting bars suck.
